Queen of Roque Enrow, as she called it in one of her greatest hits (Esse Tal de Roque Enrow), Rita Lee marked generations with her irreverence and musical quality. Beyond being a singer, she launched trends and unsettled quite a few uptight people. To honor this artist who made — and still makes — so many people happy, the Nova Orquestra (New Orchestra) will launch the tour “Alô, Alô Marciano,” which will travel through three states during the month of August, starting in Rio de Janeiro.
Among the 35 members of the Nova Orquestra who will perform this Monday, 08/14, at the Sala Cecília Meireles, in Lapa, RJ, seven are part of the Orquestra de Câmara do Pantanal (OCAMP), of the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano (South American Moinho Cultural Institute). They are: Augusto César de Souza (saxophone), Diego Cuellar and Emanuel Teixeira (viola), Roque Rosa (violin 1), Flávia Sanchez (violin 2), José Maikson (cello) and Matheus Magalhães (trombone).
The tours “Exagerados,” “Dias de Lutas, dias de Glória” and “Everybody” were the other ones the Nova Orquestra carried out, and which OCAMP musicians were also able to take part in.
This time, under the direction of conductor and artistic director of the Nova Orquestra Éder Paolozzi, members join other young musicians from the Programa Vale Música (Vale Music Program) to present orchestrated versions of unforgettable songs like “Lança perfume,” “Doce vampiro,” “Amor e sexo,” “Ovelha Negra” and several others.
A project of Agência Olga, the Nova Orquestra was created to promote and democratize concert music. To carry out the project, it joined forces with the Programa Vale Música, an initiative of the Instituto Cultural Vale that promotes a collaborative teaching and learning network among students and professionals from the country’s major orchestras.
Today’s (13) performance in RJ features the participation of eight students from Moinho Cultural. The concerts will be free or have popular prices. The Nova Orquestra is sponsored by the Instituto Cultural Vale through the Federal Culture Incentive Law.
“The Nova Orquestra will pay tribute to one of the greatest Brazilian artists of all time, who left us this year, causing great national commotion. Rita Lee, beyond her immense musical legacy, was an inspiration for women, and for an entire generation, in the fight for freedom of expression. We’re going to journey through great songs by the queen of rock in orchestral versions, and no one will remain unmoved,” comments conductor Éder Paolozzi.
For conductor and cellist José Maikson, of OCAMP, “playing with the Nova Orquestra is always an incredible experience. We bring a contagious energy to the stage, a lot of happiness and great interaction with the audience. Rita Lee is gone, but her music remains,” he highlights.
Mateus Simões, managing partner of Agência Olga, creator of the Nova Orquestra, celebrates the realization of the project: “Rita Lee’s legacy is phenomenal. Her lyrics, melodies and gestures are unique; just 5 seconds of a song is enough to know that composition came from her brilliant mind. Honoring the singer with the Nova Orquestra is almost a duty as a Brazilian. It’s an honor to be able to turn her songs into symphonic works.”
This is the fourth time that the Nova Orquestra and the Vale Música program have launched a project in partnership, this being the third tour around the country. In October 2022 the concert “Dias de Lutas, Dias de Glória” was held, featuring hits by the band Charlie Brown Jr, passing through Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, Mato Grosso do Sul and São Luís. Then in April it was time for “Exagerado,” a concert honoring the great Cazuza, which passed through Rio, Espírito Santo, Belo Horizonte and Pará. In May of this year the Nova Orquestra was in Belo Horizonte, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and Vitória, honoring the international band BackStreet Boys, in the concert “Everybody.” In every edition, the performances sold out.

An innovative project in search of unique experiences in concert music, the Nova Orquestra is Brazil’s first 100% pop orchestra and seeks to present shows and projects with original, creative repertoires.
Nova made its debut in 2019 at Game XP for more than 100 thousand people; that same year it was also the main attraction of the Rock in Rio Sunset Stage, where it returned in 2022 alongside singer Jão and in the show Uirapuru, performing every day of the event. Winner of the Prêmio Profissionais da Música (Music Professionals Award), the Nova Orquestra has already performed alongside major names in Brazilian music such as Rael, Daniel Boaventura, Di Ferreiro, Roberta Campos, Rincon Sapiência, Claudia Leitte, Toni Garrido and others.
About the Programa Vale Música
An original project of the Instituto Cultural Vale, the Vale Música program is a collaborative teaching and learning network among students from musical hubs in four states — Pará, Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais and Mato Grosso do Sul — and professionals from the country’s largest orchestras. In total, it involves about 250 professionals and more than 1,000 students in exchanges, classes and artistic residencies. Partners of the Programa Vale Música include the Orquestra Sinfônica Brasileira (OSB), the Orquestra Ouro Preto, the Orquestra Filarmônica de Minas Gerais, the Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo (Osesp) and the Nova Orquestra, sponsored through the Federal Culture Incentive Law.
