On Friday (11), starting at 2 pm, the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano, Cidade Dom Bosco, Cripam/Caij and Instituto Novo Olhar join forces in a march to draw attention to the culture of giving. This month, Giving Day is celebrated, a worldwide initiative to promote generosity. It is a mobilization that promotes a more supportive country, through connecting people with causes.

In Brazil, Giving Day was held for the first time in 2013, one year after the first edition, in the United States in 2012. Since 2014, Brazil has been part of the global movement, which today has 85 countries participating officially.

In Corumbá, the intention of the institutions benefiting from the date is precisely to draw attention to the movement. “We can all defend a cause, believe that we can transform society, this day is an opportunity for us to be part of this transformation and impact our city by standing alongside the Civil Society Organizations that carry out important work,” says Márcia Rolon, executive director of Moinho Cultural.

For the coordinator of Cidade Dom Bosco, Fernando Melgar, the march is also a way to introduce Giving Day to those who don’t yet know the initiative. “Many people still don’t know that there is a campaign to promote the culture of giving in Brazil. That’s why we want to bring this message to all Corumbá residents,” he explains.

Cripam currently serves 600 children and, according to educator Dilson Vilalva Esquer, every kind of help is important. “Donations help by giving us the necessary means to acquire goods or to carry out some service/event for those we protect. This is clear when we talk about monetary donation. However, there are other types of donations that people can make, such as volunteering, which becomes a very valuable physical contribution,” says Esquer.

The founder of Instituto Novo Olhar, Edinaldo Souza Neves, states that this is an important moment, which brings together major social organizations of the municipality for a single cause. “We are together with Moinho to awaken the interest of the Corumbá population for this moment,” he assures.

The march will depart from in front of Frei Mariano street, in front of Clube Riachuelo, between Cabral and Colombo streets.
