Nick, Brian, Kevin, AJ, and Howie D. Anyone over 30 knows by heart the names of the members of one of the most famous boy bands of recent times: the Backstreet Boys. In tribute to three decades since the American pop band’s debut, the Nova Orquestra (New Orchestra) will tour four states presenting the Everybody tour throughout May. Under the direction of conductor and artistic director of the Nova Orquestra, Eder Paolozzi, musicians from the ensemble join young musicians from the Programa Vale Música (Vale Música Program) to perform orchestral versions of unforgettable songs such as “Everybody,” “As Long as You Love Me,” “Quit Playing Games,” and “I Want It That Way.”
The tour will pass through four cities, starting in Belo Horizonte on May 14, with a performance at Minascentro. Next, it heads to Rio de Janeiro on the 15th, at Teatro Casagrande, then on to Salvador on the 17th, at Teatro Jorge Amado, and finally Vitória on the 18th, at Sesc Glória. The concerts will have affordable ticket prices. The Nova Orquestra is sponsored by the Instituto Cultural Vale through Brazil’s Federal Law for Cultural Incentive.
“We are very happy to play the repertoire of the most famous boy band in the world, which turns 30 in 2023 and is more active than ever, releasing a new album and tour. We will give a symphonic version to the band’s hit repertoire, which is quite varied in style, incorporating its most striking musical aspects. In this way, we continue the beautiful encounter between the Nova Orquestra and the young musicians of Vale Música from all over Brazil, uniting generations through music,” comments Éder Paolozzi, principal conductor of the Nova Orquestra.
Mateus Simões, managing partner of Agência Olga, the creator of the Nova Orquestra, celebrates the project’s realization: “Pop music from the second half of the 1990s and early 2000s is packed with incredible melodies, with great productions and striking arrangements! We can’t wait to hit the road and play songs that are unforgettable for several generations, in brand-new and unexpected arrangements!”
The ensemble will be made up of 35 participants from the Vale Música program, 24 of them from Moinho Cultural – Corumbá, in Mato Grosso do Sul, and from Serra, in Espírito Santo, plus another 10 members of the Nova Orquestra, from Rio de Janeiro.
This is the fourth time that the Nova Orquestra and the Vale Música program have launched a project in partnership, the third tour across the country. In October 2022, the concert “Dias de Lutas, Dias de Glória” (“Days of Struggle, Days of Glory”) was held, featuring hits by the band Charlie Brown Jr, passing through Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, Mato Grosso do Sul, and São Luís, with sold-out shows. Then in April came “Exagerado” (“Exaggerated”), a concert paying tribute to the great Cazuza, which passed through Rio, Espírito Santo, Belo Horizonte, and Pará, likewise sold out.
