Until Saturday (5), 500 women take part in “Anzol Rosa” (Pink Hook), an initiative by Joice Tur Pesca & Tur, in the Mato Grosso do Sul Pantanal. This time, in partnership with the IHP (Instituto Homem Pantaneiro) (Pantanal Man Institute), the largest women’s sport fishing event included an environmental action: planting 500 ipê saplings, on the banks of the Paraguay River.

President of the IHP, Ângelo Rabelo explains that the Institute identified five areas affected by the 2020 fires – the largest ever recorded in the Pantanal – to receive the saplings. The action also has the support of the Brazilian Army, which cleared the areas, and the Grupo Rio da Prata and IASB (Instituto das Águas da Serra da Bodoquena) (Bodoquena Mountain Range Waters Institute), responsible for donating the saplings.

“We will give all the technical support so that these planted saplings can develop. It’s a praiseworthy attitude. There are 500 saplings. That is, each woman will plant an ipê, on the banks of the Paraguay River, in areas affected by fire. It’s a way of contributing assertively to the recovery of riparian forest, so important for our rivers,” says Rabelo.

Being the first edition, “Anzol Rosa” aims to become a traditional event in the Mato Grosso do Sul Pantanal, bringing together only women sport anglers. This time, there are 15 hotel-boats from companies that joined forces to make sport fishing something different.

The IHP has developed a series of actions within the project “Mitigation of the effects of the 2020 fires and prevention against new fires in the Serra do Amolar, Pantanal,” approved under the Project Strategies for Conservation, Restoration and Management for the biodiversity of the Caatinga, Pampa and Pantanal (GEF Terrestrial) through call for projects 01/2021, from FUNBIO (Brazilian Fund for Biodiversity).

In the event’s program, the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano will also give a performance at the end of the afternoon on Friday (4). Besides Moinho Cultural’s musicians, members of OCAMP (Orquestra de Câmara do Pantanal) (Pantanal Chamber Orchestra), the performance will also feature the Cia de Dança do Pantanal.
