Based on the book “O Fazedor de Amanhecer” (“The Maker of Dawn”), by Manoel de Barros, the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano has already begun preparations for the show, in public-class format, of Moinho In Concert 2024, scheduled for December 14, at Praça Generoso Ponce, in Corumbá (MS).
To celebrate the institution’s 20th anniversary, reached now in 2024, the Institute once again pays tribute to the poet Manoel de Barros. In 2007, 2013 and 2017, the ‘Manoel-inspired’ themes explored were from the works “Faz de Conta” (“Make Believe”), “O Segredo da Brincadeira” (“The Secret of Play”) and “Nossa Gênese” (“Our Genesis”).
This August, preparations for the big event are picking up pace, as explained by multidisciplinary artist Arce Correia, currently in charge of body and vocal expressiveness training, as well as acting, who, with support from SESC MS, is holding workshops for Moinho Cultural participants.
Arce will also contribute to the portrayal of the character who narrates the story and stitches the scenes together. According to him, the presentations will follow a sequence and will reference Manoel’s work.
“Being able to take part, to be on stage with them (Moinho Cultural members), gives me more tools so I can craft a text that is coherent with the show’s proposal and with the goal of developing the people involved”, the multidisciplinary artist points out.
The event, which already brings together more than 500 people in its organization, whether as musicians, dancers or production staff, aims to contribute to the development of the participants, based on a close relationship with the culture of the Pantanal region, understanding multifaceted knowledge as a way of broadening perspectives and possibilities.
Márcio de Camillo, singer-songwriter from Mato Grosso do Sul, will make a special appearance at Moinho In Concert with two songs. Already familiar with the Institute, he speaks about the essential nature of a social project that embraces so many areas.
“When Moinho Cultural emerged, I realized how important it was to have a school of magic and enchantment in the middle of the Pantanal. In this sanctuary, which represents what is noblest in life, which is dreaming. Paraphrasing Mário Quintana, a life isn’t enough just to be lived, it needs to be dreamed, and Moinho is exactly that, it’s living by dreaming and building dreams.”, Camillo pointed out.
For Márcia Rolon, founder and executive director of Moinho Cultural, holding another major event like this Moinho In Concert, especially while celebrating the organization’s 20th anniversary, is proof that initiatives combining learning and culture bear ever more generous fruit for the world.
“Manoel’s poetry is a constant learning experience, so much so that we are revisiting this narrative two decades after founding our Institute. The chance to involve our children and adolescents in this experience, reinventing interpretations, brings them an unmatched gain, and thus the purpose of Moinho Cultural, of transforming local reality, keeps materializing”, she concludes.
