Corumbá will host, on August 28, the 21st edition of Dança em Trânsito (Dance in Transit), considered one of the largest and most comprehensive international contemporary dance festivals in the country. In the Mato Grosso do Sul Pantanal, the performances will take place at the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano, starting at 6pm. Admission is free.
Having started in July, the festival travels this year through 33 cities across the country’s five regions until October, with artistic performances, training, capacity building, reflection and exchange among dance groups from various cities in Brazil and around the world.
During the festival, in Corumbá, there will be two performances. The first is the show resulting from the “Residências de Intercâmbio Profissional com Criação e Circulação” (Professional Exchange Residencies with Creation and Circulation), led by Igor Gasparini, from São Paulo, with the Cia de Dança do Pantanal (Pantanal Dance Company).
The residencies promote integration among different regions through the creation of choreographies by invited Brazilian and foreign artists and choreographers for the artists of the cities where the creation workshops are held. Local artists, in turn, will travel to other cities with the festival, presenting these works, strengthening the exchange of experiences and broadening the knowledge of those involved.
Next, the show “Creme do Céu” (Cream of the Sky) will be presented, suitable for all ages. A blend of dance and theater, it tells the adventures of a curious star that falls to planet Earth and must find a way to return to the sky, and is presented by Grupo Tápias, closing the Dança em Trânsito program in the city.
The 21st Dança em Trânsito is presented by the Ministry of Culture, through the Cultural Incentive Law, with master sponsorship from Instituto Cultural Vale and sponsorship from Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus and Engie Brasil Energia.
For the executive director of Moinho Cultural, Márcia Rolon, hosting the festival in Corumbá is an honor and contributes to the audience-building work the institution has developed over the last 18 years.
“Besides working on the humanistic and cultural education of the children and adolescents served by Moinho Cultural, we have contributed directly to audience building, in the middle of the Mato Grosso do Sul Pantanal, on Brazil’s border. Hosting the Dança em Trânsito Festival, a national and international reference, makes us very proud and reinforces how transformative art and culture are. It’s an opportunity to gain more knowledge, to have a more intense exchange, but also to share this with our city, our people,” she said.
