In observance of Orange May, the month dedicated to combating violence and sexual exploitation against children and adolescents, the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano carried out a series of awareness and mobilization actions in Corumbá (MS), reinforcing its commitment to protecting childhood.

On May 18th, Instituto staff carried out a distribution of educational booklets at the city’s Porto Geral — in total, around 900 booklets were distributed. The material was prepared by the Moinho team using accessible language and practical guidance on how to identify and respond to situations of violence, and can be accessed here. The goal was to raise public awareness and turn information into an ally for prevention.

Another highlight of the month is the start of the “De Criança para Criança” (From Child to Child) project, developed by the institution’s Núcleo Social (Social Unit). The idea is to bring Moinho participants into municipal schools, where they themselves lead discussion circles with other children on the topics covered in the thematic groups. The first session took place at Escola Municipal CAIC Padre Ernesto Sassida, and this same week two more visits are taking place, at the schools EMEI Tilma Fernandes Veiga and Escola Municipal Cyriaco Félix de Toledo.

“I believe it’s a transformative opportunity. Besides learning about important topics, the children also develop skills such as communication, self-confidence and leadership. It’s a mutual learning experience that strengthens children’s role as agents of social change,” highlights Jessyka Karolaine, of Moinho Cultural’s Núcleo Social.

The project values childhood as a force for listening and change. When one child speaks and another listens attentively, a safe space for exchange, empathy and affection is born — fundamental foundations for building a future with more care and collective awareness.
