Today’s world is audiovisual. With so many screens and so much information, it is almost impossible to escape this fact. Aware of this, the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano (South American Moinho Cultural Institute) promotes a basic film and video course, completely free of charge, until May 28, with professional Reinaldo Delgado, and has been reaping good results among the students taking part in the initiative.
For Lyniker Mateus, a student at the institution, the course has been extremely important to him. “I’m passionate about this field and through the course I’ve learned a lot. I’m a beginner in audiovisual and Moinho helped me develop. Definitely, the things I liked most about this course were the teaching approach, attention and care that professor Reinaldo has with each student so that we can learn better,” he says.
Lyniker was one of the Moinho Cultural students who were only able to take part in the online activities and continue studying thanks to the institution’s assistance. “Moinho gave me a SIM card to study because I don’t have internet at home. I’m very grateful. The institution has always been part of my life in an indirect way. I always wanted to be an artist and Moinho inspires me,” he explains.
A student at the Institute for five years, Milene Ovando also takes part in the classes and said this has been the opportunity to delve deeper into what she has always loved. “My dream was to study audiovisual at college, but I didn’t get the chance, so I always kept it as a hobby. Now, with the classes, I’ve been learning the technical side of audiovisual and it’s been very valuable.”
Teacher and director of photography Reinaldo Delgado explains that the class format has engaged students precisely by bringing in examples from professionals who work in the audiovisual field.
“I make a habit of bringing in professionals to talk about their careers. I brought in a reporter from Rede Record da Bahia, Mateus, who is from Salvador, to talk about language within journalism. I also brought in Maurício Ramos, screenwriter, to talk about the language of screenwriting within comedy, and I also brought in Toninho Murici, sound technician for Sylvester Stallone’s film ‘The Expendables,’ and he came to talk about sound recording,” he says.
Reinaldo, whose résumé includes image direction work on the Cineview program on Telecine, alongside Renata Boldrini and José Wilker, as well as coverage of national and international film festivals for Canal Brasil and many other television programs and channels such as Shoptime and Canal Futura, says this is his way of teaching: “with examples and experiences from the professionals who take part in the course.”
This course was funded by the company VISA, via the Childhood and Adolescence Incentive Law, through the Municipal Fund for Children and Adolescents of the Municipality of Corumbá.
Moinho Cultural – Located in Corumbá-MS for 16 years, the Institute is a Civil Society Organization – OSC that offers children and adolescents in situations of social vulnerability in Corumbá, Ladário, Puerto Suarez and Puerto Quijarro, dance, music, technology and computer science classes; a service of social engagement and strengthening bonds between institution, family, school and participant, in addition to training creative performers for young people and adults, through the dance company, technology center and orchestra. Its mission is to reduce social vulnerability in the Brazil-Bolivia border region through access to cultural and technological assets.
In 2020 Moinho was recognized by Instituto Doar with the A Seal, qualifying it as a certified organization. This recognition legitimizes and highlights the professionalism and transparency of the OSC, with the aim of further encouraging a culture of giving.
