Children and adolescents from the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano (South American Moinho Cultural Institute), in Corumbá-MS, are taking part this weekend in the 7th edition of the Prêmio Onça Pintada (Onça Pintada Award), at the Teatro Glauce Rocha, in Campo Grande.
Moinho Cultural is participating with two choreographies in the Award’s evaluation showcase. The first is Duo de Gatos, a classical ballet performance, supervised by teacher Mayda Rivero. The second choreography is contemporary dance: Canoa, guided by teacher Wellington Julio.
Both performances will be in the junior category, which brings together adolescents between 12 and 15 years old. They are students of the Institute’s intermediate B class. “This return to dancing on stage, performing, is very meaningful. The students went nearly two years without performing in front of an audience. Taking part in a competition in the capital, which is already well-known, is an even greater emotion. Most of them have never performed in a competition before, some have never traveled. They are quite anxious and happy. I think it will be a great learning experience. It’s a very good growth opportunity for them and for Moinho Cultural as well,” says teacher Wellington Julio.
Both performances take place today (31st). “Canoa” will be presented in the first session, starting at 4 p.m., and “Duo de Gatos” in the second session, which begins at 8 p.m.
The 7th edition of the Prêmio Onça Pintada begins this Saturday (30th) and runs until Monday (1st). Aiming to democratize dance and promote cultural exchange, technical development, and artistic interpretation among groups and dancers, Onça Pintada brings together big names in dance in Brazil.
In this edition, the submitted works will be evaluated by a panel of judges made up of Adriana Assaf, Caio Nunes, Edson Santos, Fernanda Fiuza, Flávia Burlini, Fernanda Frandsen, Jonathan Lanna, Margareth Viduani, Erick Gutierrez, and Ana Lúcia El Daiher.
During the event, choreographies entered in 10 categories will be presented: repertoire classical ballet, free classical ballet, contemporary dance, jazz, urban dance, tap dance, popular dances, Arabic dances, and free style.
