This week, the institution welcomed visitors from MT; by the end of the month, three more projects will visit Corumbá

This June, the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano is hosting four organizations from different contexts and realities that take part in the Missão em Foco (Mission in Focus) program, Itaú Social, to exchange knowledge, practices, methodologies, and experiences.

Moinho is opening its doors to showcase the practices it has adopted and refined over the last 18 years. This week, the organization hosted was from Mato Grosso, from the municipality of Campo Verde, Instituto Germinando Sons.

From the organization, those taking part in the visit were André Régis (executive director and conductor), Bruno Parreira (general coordinator and teacher), Wender Péricles (artistic coordinator, teaching assistant, and music teacher), Jair Moraes (pedagogical coordinator and music teacher), and Weslley (finance and administration).

For the executive director of Instituto Germinando Sons, the visit was productive and expectations were met. “I was really expecting, from this visit, to get to know the institutional processes, both on the management side as a whole, the communication side, and the main logic of the pedagogical side, in order to understand Moinho Cultural’s educational processes, and we had a surprise. We were surprised by how the institution operates, with children attending during off-school hours and staying the entire period.

In the projects in the state of Mato Grosso, there isn’t a single project today that does this. Children always attend during off-school hours, at most three times a week, for one time slot, and are then dismissed. I also found the rotation of participants among the different centers incredible,” said André Régis.

The exchange, according to Régis, was very productive, and the intention is to keep up communication between the two institutions. “There was a lot of systematic discussion of the processes and that was very good. We had contact with everyone at the institution. We learned a lot from Moinho Cultural and would like to keep up that contact,” he assured.

According to the institutional development consultant of Missão em Foco, Everaldo Costa, the intention is to promote the exchange of experiences in a targeted way. “The exchange aims to bring organizations in the program closer together, generating learning and experiences capable of encouraging practices that contribute to institutional development. It is one of the foundations of the training cycle, based on exchanges of experience carried out in a joyful and spontaneous, yet targeted, way. For the organizations, the experiences and exchanges generate new experiences that motivate teams, encourage changes, and produce important lessons for institutional development, in an autonomous and collective way,” he states.

Between June 18 and 25, Moinho Cultural will host members of Instituto Camará Calunga, from São Paulo. Between June 19 and 24, the visitors will be members of the Associação dos Deficientes Físicos de Poços de Caldas (MG). The Centro Social Carisma will also visit the institution later in June, with all of them being part of Missão em Foco.

Moinho Cultural is a civil society organization (OSC) that offers dance, music, technology, and IT classes to children and teenagers in situations of social vulnerability in Corumbá, Ladário, Puerto Suarez, and Puerto Quijarro. The continuing education offered by the institution lasts up to eight years. Moinho also works on training creative performers for young people and adults, through the Companhia de Dança do Pantanal (Pantanal Dance Company), Orquestra de Câmara do Pantanal (Pantanal Chamber Orchestra), and the Technology Center. The institution’s mission is to reduce social vulnerability in the Brazil-Bolivia border region through access to cultural and technological resources. Since activities began, more than 23,000 children and teenagers have been served by Moinho.

The Institute currently has master sponsorship via the Instituto Cultural Vale’s Cultural Incentive Law, as well as sponsorship from Bellalluna Participações LTDA, BRINKS, BTG Pactual, CaraÍ Empreendimentos LTDA, COMPER, Instituto Itaú Cultural, HINOVE, Rodobens, and Criança Esperança, funding from the Government of the State of Mato Grosso do Sul, through the Fundação de Cultura de Mato Grosso do Sul, in addition to the partnership with J.Macêdo, Itaú Social, and Fecomércio MS-SESC.

Institutional partners include the Corumbá City Hall, Ladário City Hall, Puerto Suárez City Hall, Puerto Quijarro City Hall, Instituto Homem Pantaneiro, IFMS, UFMS, Acaia Pantanal, and other individual and corporate donors.
