Moinho Cultural launches campaign for donations via Income Tax

Moinho Cultural launched the campaign “Leão, amigo das crianças” (“Lion, friend of children”) to encourage donations via Income Tax. The initiative aims to expand support for social projects aimed at children and adolescents, strengthening the institution’s commitment to human development and social inclusion.

During the Income Tax filing process, taxpayers have the opportunity to allocate up to 6% of the tax owed to social causes, with 3% going to the Fund for the Rights of Children and Adolescents and 3% to the Fund for the Rights of the Elderly. This allocation represents no additional cost to the taxpayer and can only be made by those who choose the full (itemized) filing model.

According to Márcia Rolon, executive director of Moinho Cultural, “the campaign is an opportunity for every Brazilian citizen to contribute directly to building a fairer and more supportive society. By allocating part of your income tax to Moinho Cultural, you are investing in the future of children and adolescents, guaranteeing access to culture, education and social assistance.”

The process for making the donation is simple and can be done while filling out the Income Tax return. After entering all the necessary information, the system itself automatically calculates the amount of tax owed. Next, simply access the donations option directly within the return, select the desired fund and indicate the amount to be allocated, within the permitted limit.

In the Donations icon, within the Federal Revenue Service’s program, you can click on the Children and Adolescents tab and then on the New button. There, you can choose which fund you wish to allocate the donation to: national, state or municipal.

Taxpayers can track the amount available for allocation, decide how much to allocate to the fund, and issue the Federal Revenue Collection Document (Darf) for the donation amount. It’s important to note that the Darf payment must be made by May 31st.

If there is no tax to pay but rather a refund due, a Darf is generated for each fund the taxpayer chooses. In these cases, the document must also be paid by May 31st.

After paying the DARF, taxpayers who chose to help Moinho Cultural must send, to the email imc@moinhocultural.org.br, a copy of the allocation. From that point, the institution will work with the CMDCA (Municipal Council for the Rights of Children and Adolescents) to gain access to the funds.

In Mato Grosso do Sul, the Federal Revenue Service expects to receive 623 thousand income tax returns by May 31st, when the deadline for settling accounts ends. Nationwide, 43 million returns are expected by the deadline.
