An event held from November 27 to 29 brings together artists and cultural managers to discuss diversity, border issues, and anti-racism
Moinho Cultural is taking part in the IFMS Arts and Culture Festival with the Regional Seminar of the Pontão de Cultura Moinho Cultural (Moinho Cultural Culture Hub) – Unindo os Pontos (Connecting the Dots), held on November 27, 28, and 29 in Corumbá (MS). This is an official activity of the Pontão de Cultura Moinho Cultural – Unindo os Pontos, under agreement TCC 951873, signed between the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano (South American Moinho Cultural Institute) and the Ministry of Culture, through the Secretariat of Citizenship and Cultural Diversity, as part of the National Living Culture Policy (Política Nacional de Cultura Viva).
The partnership with IFMS makes it possible to break out of the bubble and reach new audiences of different ages, expanding cultural circulation and strengthening access to the arts in the region. The seminar offers an immersion in themes such as diversity, border issues, and anti-racism, bringing together educators, artists, public officials, and representatives of cultural institutions over three days of debates, presentations, and exchanges of experience.
The opening, on November 27, will be led by Moinho Cultural’s artistic director, Márcia Rolon, who will give an overview of the Pontão de Cultura and Moinho Cultural’s work, presenting the actions carried out in the territory, its trajectory, and the social and cultural impacts generated in the border region.
On November 28, activities run throughout the day, with an official opening led by Caroline Garcia, cultural producer and coordinator of the Ministry of Culture (MinC) in Mato Grosso do Sul. In her talk, Caroline will address the theme “Living Culture and the importance of this gathering for the network,” reinforcing the role of the Pontões de Cultura in coordinating cultural and community initiatives.
The program includes thematic round tables that deepen essential reflections on the border territory. The Diversity round table will feature the Cia de Dança do Pantanal (Pantanal Dance Company), which will present the show “Janela do Dia,” followed by a conversation circle with the dancers. The discussion will be moderated by Anderson Luis do Espírito Santo, a professor at UFMS and coordinator of PPGEF and OBISFRON, and will also include dancer Luz, who will share her testimony on art, identity, and representation.
Next, the Xenophobia – Border round table will bring together Dr. Marco Aurélio, Dr. Suzana Mancilla (advisor to the Pontão de Cultura), Allan Lopes Ramos, a public servant and Camba-Chiquitano indigenous man, and Márcia Rolon, in a dialogue on identity, coexistence, and the challenges of interculturality on the Brazil–Bolivia border.
Closing the cycle of debates, the Anti-racism round table will bring together Karina Caetano (IMC), Márcia Cristina, mother of a Moinho Cultural participant, and Márcia Rolon, in a conversation about education, belonging, and confronting structural racism.
In addition to the round tables and presentations, professor Anderson Luis do Espírito Santo also proposed holding a workshop on associations and cooperatives, aimed at cultural collectives interested in formalizing their legal status. The activity, which may be added to the Pontão’s schedule, aims to provide technical and legal support in drafting bylaws and strengthening local cultural organizations, promoting autonomy and sustainability.
The second day ends with a special concert by the Orquestra de Câmara do Pantanal (Pantanal Chamber Orchestra), which will perform film themes in the IFMS auditorium. The repertoire was chosen in reference to the institution’s Cosplay Festival program.
On November 29, the seminar closes with a moment of togetherness and celebration. The get-together at IFMS will bring together staff, partners, and family members, marking the end of the gathering. That same morning, at 8 a.m., Moinho Cultural will hold the general rehearsal of Moinho in Concert, with all participants and the technical team present.
