Jhônatan Anjos suffered an accident in 2020 and needs a hip prosthesis
A former member of the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano (South American Moinho Cultural Institute) and of the Cia de Dança do Pantanal (Pantanal Dance Company), dancer Jhônatan Parola Bento dos Anjos, 24, suffered an accident in August 2020. Now, he has launched an online fundraiser to buy a hip prosthesis and cover the cost of the surgery. The goal is to raise R$ 85 thousand. So far, the former dancer has already raised R$ 59 thousand.
“The most important and serious injury I had is the fracture of my right hip. This money is intended for the purchase and payment of my hip prosthesis surgery. I have been bedridden for a year and four months, with one leg longer than the other. My hip is in the wrong position and I’m preparing for a prosthesis. I’ve tried several procedures that failed and today I’m hoping that the prosthesis will be the last step in this long recovery process”, Jhônatan summarizes.
Jhônatan had the accident while returning home with two friends. The car they were in crashed head-on with a truck, near Marília, in the interior of São Paulo. The former dancer suffered several serious injuries and was even in a coma for a few days.
Because of the accident, Jhônatan no longer has any chance of dancing again. “The prosthesis, even though it gives me a much better quality of life than I would have if the bone had healed on its own, doesn’t allow me to do many everyday movements. Today, I dream of walking again”, he says.
Jhônatan was part of the Cia de Dança do Pantanal at two different times: during the process of creating and consolidating the group, between 2016 and 2018, and, most recently, for four months in 2019. In addition, he was a Moinho Cultural teacher, specifically in the dance area, between 2016 and 2018. Moinho In Concert, the Prêmio Onça-Pintada (Jaguar Award) and the Vale tour were some of the moments in which Jhônatan took part.
