Photographer Luciano Candisani will launch tomorrow, Thursday (7th), the documentary book “Terra D’Água Pantanal”, a work that gathers images from the last 10 years of his expeditions in the Pantanal region of Mato Grosso do Sul. The launch will be at 6 p.m. at the Instituto Homem Pantaneiro (IHP) in Corumbá. All proceeds will go to the organization that works to fight wildfires in the region.
The Orquestra de Câmara do Pantanal (OCAMP) (Pantanal Chamber Orchestra), from the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano (South American Moinho Cultural Institute), will also be there to give a performance. The work is the result of Candisani’s dives in the planet’s largest flooded plain, in remote parts of the Pantanal and its headwaters, as well as in the surrounding highlands.
“From afar or up close, the photographs in this essay never do without the liquid guiding thread: water is present in every image, just as it is in everything that has life,” said Luciano Candisani.
About the book
In all, there are 75 photographs, many of them taken during expeditions in the flood period, when the rivers overflow and the Pantanal turns into a sea.
“Over the last 10 years I spent a lot of time submerged in the domains of caimans, anacondas, piranhas, and giant otters, always at a short distance from these animals. I also flew aboard single-engine planes trying to understand, from above, the outlines and general patterns of the aquatic landscapes invisible at ground level. The photographs in this work were born from that effort of interpretation,” the author explains.
Besides the photographs, the book also includes texts, largely drawn from Candisani’s original field notes.
