Young musicians from Corumbá, Mato Grosso do Sul, were a hit after playing a regional song aboard the world’s largest passenger aircraft, the Airbus A380, while traveling to Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, last Tuesday (15th).
On the plane, on their way to their first international performance, the young musicians of the Orquestra Vale Música (Vale Música Orchestra) showed off their talent by playing the song “Mercedita”, a popular classic from Mato Grosso do Sul, delighting the flight’s passengers.
The Orquestra de Câmara do Pantanal (OCAMP) (Pantanal Chamber Orchestra), of the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano (South American Moinho Cultural Institute), members of the Programa Vale Música (Vale Música Program), traveled to the Middle East to give the first international performance of its history, this weekend, at Expo Dubai.

“Taking part in this gigantic gathering, held every five years and which addresses themes such as culture, technology, innovation, design and human excellence, makes us believe that everything is possible, our dreams, our efforts, the pursuit of learning, developing and, above all, believing more and more that art transforms and gives us infinite possibilities”, wrote Moinho Cultural on social media. “The Orquestra Vale Música gives us experiences that will certainly be unforgettable”.
The Orquestra Vale Música will perform the song “Trenzinho do Caipira (Bachianas Brasileiras No. 2)”, by Heitor Villa-Lobos, one of the best-known South American composers of all time, on February 19 and 20, at the Dubai Millennium Amphitheatreos.
According to the Instituto Moinho Cultural, headquartered in Corumbá, the young musicians are also an attraction at the hotel where they are staying, the Le Meridien Fairway Hotel. “Guests are having incredible experiences with our Orchestra, being able to enjoy, upon waking and before resting, good music being played in the hotel lobby by our musicians”, they wrote on social media.
The concerts are part of the Expo Dubai event, which began in October 2021 and runs until March 31, and will be broadcast on the Expo Dubai channel, at 10 a.m. (Brasília time). According to G1, the performances mark 200 days until the bicentennial of Brazil’s independence.
