Márcia Rolon, former dancer from Mato Grosso do Sul; Neide Suruí, indigenous rights advocate from Rondônia; Bismarck Araújo, photographer from inland Bahia; Lemaestro, rapper and skater from São Paulo’s East Zone; Ana Paula Mucunã, leader in a settlement in Rio Grande do Norte; Vera Cordeiro, doctor in Rio de Janeiro; and chef David Hertz, also from Rio. What they have in common is that all of them transformed their lives by creating social projects with great impact on their communities, to which they are passionately devoted.
They are the protagonists of the documentary series Meu, Seu, Nosso (“Mine, Yours, Ours”), which sheds light on the story of these seven figures and invites specialists from different fields to reflect on what moves people to give their time and their lives to those in need. Conceived by the Abilio Diniz family, and created by Marcos Prado, who also serves as overall director and shares the direction of the episodes with João Jardim, the series is produced by Zazen Produções and Ana Maria Diniz, and premieres on August 16, exclusively on the Aquarius streaming platform, launched by Bruno Wainer in June of last year.
Invited by Ana Maria Diniz to bring the project to life, the award-winning photographer, director and producer Marcos Prado — who, among other films, directed Estamira (2004), Paraísos Artificiais (2012) and Macabro (2020), and produced Os Carvoeiros (1999), Bus 174 (2002), Elite Squad (2007) and Elite Squad 2 (2010) — chose the series format and invited director João Jardim to share the direction of the episodes.
“At the same time that we went after these figures, we thought it was important to raise this discussion about what makes human beings have empathy, care about others, whether that is innate or not. And, on the other hand, to try to understand why there still isn’t a consolidated culture of philanthropy in the country, which ranks only 89th in the world ranking”, Marcos points out.
To weave the narrative together, the series interviewed a neuroscientist (Jorge Moll), a religious figure (Nilton Bonder), a social scientist (Reginaldo Lima), two psychoanalysts (Vera Iaconelli and Inês Lafer), a journalist and writer (Rosane Borges), a historian and philosopher of science from Israel (Oren Harman), a Nigerian-American writer, screenwriter and filmmaker (Uzodinma Iweala), a historian and political scientist (Átila Roque), a social and political scientist (Neca Setubal), an American professor of Philosophy and Political Science (Rob Reich), as well as five social entrepreneurs (Marcella Coelho, Pedro Werneck, Raull Santiago, Taz de Alencar and Ticiana Queiroz), who raised questions based on their experiences leading initiatives in the third sector.
The launch
Launched on Tuesday, August 13, at the Cinemark in the Iguatemi mall, in São Paulo, the event brought together the protagonists and sources of the documentary series, and was attended by notable figures and artists such as Hugo Prata, Pedro Bial, Txai Suruí, Geyze Diniz, Felipe D’Ávila, Luis Guilherme, Cinnara Leal, among others.
“We are very excited about what this series will be, one that brings the culture of giving at its core. We already have the Pantanal, Moinho Cultural, Corumbá on the production’s promotional cover, with our participant who has been with us since she was little and today is a staff member of the institution. Besides that, being able to be alongside great figures who make a difference makes me very happy. People will get to see the country from the inside, in the interior, with such important people who do their utmost so that Brazil can be better and greater”, said Márcia Rolon, founder of Moinho Cultural, in Corumbá (MS).
Synopsis: “Meu, Seu, Nosso” is a journey through the culture of giving in Brazil, its actors, practices, effects and consequences, reflecting on the world we have built so far and what we want for the future. Rather than seeking concrete answers, the series aims, through real-life figures, to assemble and reveal a mosaic of subtle motivations that turn ordinary people into donors capable of genuine acts.
