The people of Corumbá and Ladário were treated last Saturday (28) to the Roda Moinho Humanizado – Saúde Única (One Health) event.

The initiative was conceived by the Núcleo Social do Moinho Cultural (Moinho Cultural Social Center) and took place at Porto Geral, in partnership with the Secretaria Municipal de Saúde, the Fundação de Turismo do Pantanal, the Fundação de Cultura e do Patrimônio Histórico de Corumbá, the CCZ, Sanesul and MS Pantanal, and the Instituto Homem Pantaneiro.

The goal was to promote dialogue, updates, and knowledge-sharing through a direct conversation with the community.

According to the regional supervisor, Marcio Bueno, flyers were also handed out, and there was blood pressure and blood glucose testing with municipal health professionals, dance classes with a special appearance by teachers from Moinho, guidance from a nutritionist, and more.

Pets also had their moment, and were able to get rabies vaccinations on site.

One Health

The term One Health was established in 2008 through an initiative of the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), with the aim of carrying out integrated work across these three pillars to ensure decision-making on health issues from a One Health perspective.

In this way, it recognizes that there is a very close link between the environment, disease in animals, and health. In essence, One Health recognizes that the key to human health lies in the balance of ecosystems and the conservation of biodiversity, and understands that preventing the emergence of diseases necessarily means proposing solutions that take into account human, animal, and planetary well-being.
