The Cia de Dança do Pantanal (Pantanal Dance Company), of the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano, arrives at the Festival Internacional de Bonito (FIB), with the show Guadakan, inspired by a Guató myth. The performance will be on the second day of the festival, Thursday (24th), at 7:30pm, on the Dance Stage.
Before arriving in Bonito, the show was presented in Corumbá, during Moinho In Concert, the main annual production of the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano, celebrating the institution’s 18th anniversary. Afterward, Guadakan went on tour through Mato Grosso do Sul, passing through the municipalities of Campo Grande, Dourados and Ponta Porã, and reached Rio de Janeiro.
Conceived from a Guató myth, Guadakan invites everyone to reflect on the importance of conserving the Pantanal, the largest wetland in the world, and issues a warning about the urgency of action on behalf of the biome.
“When rules are broken, punishments will be handed down. At present, more than 17 million vertebrate animals have been killed,” reads a line from the show, which mentions the effects of the historic wildfires in the Pantanal, recorded in 2021.
One of the highlights of the show is the jaguar duo, which displays the full majesty of the largest feline in the Americas, portrayed by the dancers of the Mato Grosso do Sul company.
A dancer with the Cia de Dança do Pantanal, Pantanal native Aline Silva Espírito Santo says that in the show, each dancer brings a bit of their individuality, but above all, the essence of the biome. “In our choreographic processes, we always bring the Pantanal with us. When we go out (with the show) and reach new audiences, we’re always carrying the Pantanal along with us. That way, the need to conserve the Pantanal and all the important issues of the biome go out into the world, and people get to know them,” she explains.

FIB 2023 is produced by the Government of Mato Grosso do Sul, through the Fundação de Cultura, Sesc MS and the Bonito City Hall.
With integrated spaces, technology at the service of art and innovations, this year’s edition promises to captivate audiences and bring quality attractions to everyone. FIB runs from August 23 to 27.
The Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano
Moinho Cultural is a civil society organization that has offered, for 18 years, dance, music, technology and computer classes to children and adolescents in situations of social vulnerability in Corumbá, Ladário, Puerto Suárez and Puerto Quijarro. The comprehensive training offered by the institution lasts up to eight years. Moinho also works on training creative performers for young people and adults, through the Companhia de Dança do Pantanal, Orquestra de Câmara do Pantanal (Pantanal Chamber Orchestra) and Núcleo de Tecnologia (Technology Center). The institution’s mission is to reduce social vulnerability in the Brazil-Bolivia border region, through access to cultural and technological assets. Since the start of its activities, more than 23,000 children and adolescents have been served by Moinho.
