Earlier this month, the show “Moinho In Concert” filled the eyes and ears of those who attended in person at Praça Generoso Ponce, in Corumbá. Next week, it will be the turn of all residents of Mato Grosso do Sul to have the opportunity to enjoy the show, which brought together music and dance in a tribute to singer Tetê Espíndola. The show will be broadcast by TV Morena on the 30th (Saturday), at 2pm, following the broadcast of the program “Mais Natureza” (“More Nature”).

This year’s “Moinho In Concert” was titled “A Menina Passarinha” and was inspired by the book of the same name, written by Diane Valdez. In addition to featuring the participation of the singer herself, Tetê Espíndola, from Mato Grosso do Sul, the show also welcomed international flutist Celina Charlier, who enchanted everyone with her flute and the sounds of birds, and multi-artist Arce Correia, responsible for the dramaturgical narrative of “Moinho In Concert” for the second consecutive year.

Initially, the show, in the format of a public class, was presented on December 2, in downtown Corumbá, where more than 4 thousand people attended the performance, which involved 500 people in its staging. After years of being held on the premises of Moinho Cultural, the show returned to Praça Generoso Ponce due to its grand scale. In the orchestra alone, more than 100 people performed.

Now, its audience grows with the broadcast on free-to-air TV. “We feel fulfilled to be able to expand our impact by airing ‘Moinho In Concert’ as a television program. We involve children, adolescents, and many professionals from Ocamp and the Cia de Dança do Pantanal; this is the moment where we show the transformative power of the art we develop with great determination,” said the executive director of Moinho Cultural, Márcia Rolon.

During the show’s presentation, it was announced that Moinho Cultural is looking for a new sponsor to continue the work currently being carried out, which serves around 400 children and adolescents every year. Since it was founded, 19 years ago, Moinho Cultural has already served more than 23 thousand children and adolescents.

“We know the importance of art and culture for social transformation, and we want to continue providing this to many children and adolescents,” Márcia Rolon emphasized.

TETÊ AND THE GIRL

In an interview in early December, Márcia Rolon spoke about the choice of the book by Diane Alvez. “Diane was with us some years ago, donated the book to our library, and now the book has inspired us. I also bring a bit of ‘invention’ and poetry, which align with our way of telling stories through narration, dance, and music,” she explained.

The idea of paying tribute to Tetê Espíndola, according to Márcia, came about after the Orquestra de Câmara do Pantanal (Pantanal Chamber Orchestra) (Ocamp) put on a show with her in Campo Grande last year. The pairing happened again in 2023, during the Festival América do Sul (South America Festival).

“With that, we grew closer, and the desire came to be nearer to her and talk about her life. With ‘A Menina Passarinha,’ the audience will get to know a bit more about the trajectory of this unique artist, hear some of Tetê’s songs, and, in the end, hear her voice, because she also takes the stage,” Márcia revealed.

PLEASURE

For Tetê Espíndola, pleasure is the word that describes the tribute. “Moinho Cultural is a place that trains new people, new musicians, new dancers, new theater people. That’s very good, not only for Mato Grosso do Sul but for the world, because they also fly off to other places. ‘Moinho In Concert’ is a very special moment in my career. I will be there to do something different, and that is very good for me,” said the singer, who has more than 40 years of career, before the performance.

About her participation in “Moinho In Concert,” Tetê said she would let all her musicality come to the surface. “I’m at a moment of really making music in flow. It’s that moment of surrendering completely,” explained Tetê, who, on stage, performed a duet with flutist Celina Charlier. Celina had already performed with Ocamp and taken part in the Festival de Música de Câmara do Pantanal (Femup) (Pantanal Chamber Music Festival).

CELINA

Holder of a master’s and a PhD in flute from New York University, Celina has been based in New York for 20 years and maintains an intense international career as a flutist. For her, one of the great distinguishing features of “A Menina Passarinha” is having the child as the protagonist and the cultural investment in childhood.

“The largest number of musicians and dancers on stage are children and adolescents. Investing in them is sowing a better future, with art, humanity, and responsibility. The other highlight is paying tribute to Tetê, a musical icon who gives voice to the birds of the Pantanal. And since the flute is also a little bird… here I am,” said the flutist, also in early December.

ARCE

The other special guest this year, multi-artist Arce Correia from Mato Grosso do Sul, graduated in Theater from the Universidade de São Paulo (USP) (University of São Paulo) and has worked in the performing arts for more than 25 years.

“I was happy with the invitation and the possibility of taking part in the project ‘Guadakan’ in 2023, in which I was able to contribute to a work that gives voice to a subject of great importance to the world, which is the balance of our ecosystem. It turned out to be a beautiful and powerful project of enormous importance. I hope that, this year, ‘A Menina Passarinha’ will fly high and far, because the work was done with great dedication by the whole team,” said the actor.
