Cia de Dança do Pantanal (Pantanal Dance Company) went, last week, on tour in the southern region of the State, with the show Fernão Capelo Gaivota. In Dourados, the Company was at Escola Estadual Floriano Viegas Machado. In Ponta Porã, the venue chosen was Escola Estadual Joaquim Murtinho. The show has already been performed at other schools in Mato Grosso do Sul, last year, as part of programming supported by a funding agreement from the Government of the State of Mato Grosso do Sul, through the Fundação de Cultura de Mato Grosso do Sul.
The students had the opportunity to enjoy the work, which leads the audience to reflect on the need to face challenges while being aware of one’s limits, but at the same time, to break through those limits with great determination.
In addition to the show, the Company’s dancers also gave a creative dance workshop, which combines command of movement with the art of expression, at both schools.
“We believe in, and see every day, how transformative art is. When we arrive at schools, this power of transformation seems even more heightened. Bringing the world of the arts to our state’s children and adolescents contributes to their development and also to audience development,” says the executive director of Moinho Cultural, Márcia Rolon.
The show
“Fernão Capelo Gaivota” (Jonathan Livingston Seagull), a best-seller written by Richard Bach, tells the story of a seagull for whom flying is not simply a way of getting around. Flying is an art and, as such, must be trained, practiced and shared with others, generating great transformations. A story about freedom, learning and love, which receives the orchestrated score in this adaptation signed by conductor Rodrigo Toffolo and which also features heavyweight names such as Tim Rescala, author of the original music, and narration led by the voice of Zezé Motta.
Cia de Dança do Pantanal
Cia de Dança do Pantanal was created in 2017, in the city of Corumbá/MS, on the border with Bolivia, being one of the integrated actions of Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano (South American Cultural Mill Institute). The intent from the beginning is to provide access and professional opportunities for dancers from South American social projects, as well as to represent the Pantanal territory, promoting dance with repertoires that include neoclassical and contemporary pieces, created by national and international choreographers.
The Company aims to explore and focus its contemporary works on one of Humanity’s most precious biomes, the Pantanal, which extends across Brazil, Bolivia and Paraguay, countries that have the state of Mato Grosso do Sul as adjacent territory, and which is considered the largest floodable area on the planet. The “COMPANHIA DE DANÇA DO PANTANAL” is a space where local, national and international artists, trained with a high degree of technical, artistic and professional knowledge to international standards, represent Corumbá/MS and Brazil, at home and abroad, for an increasingly demanding audience seeking quality, excellence and greatness in Brazil and around the world.
Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano
Moinho Cultural is a civil society organization that has offered, for 18 years, dance, music, technology and computer classes to children and adolescents in situations of social vulnerability in Corumbá, Ladário, Puerto Suárez and Puerto Quijarro. The comprehensive training offered by the institution lasts up to eight years. Moinho also works on training creative performers for young people and adults, through Companhia de Dança do Pantanal, Orquestra de Câmara do Pantanal (Pantanal Chamber Orchestra) and Núcleo de Tecnologia. The institution’s mission is to reduce social vulnerability in the Brazil-Bolivia border region, through access to cultural and technological assets. Since activities began, more than 23 thousand children and adolescents have been served by Moinho.
Moinho Cultural currently has master sponsorship via the Cultural Incentive Law from Instituto Cultural Vale, as well as sponsorship from Bellalluna Participações LTDA, Energisa, BRINKS, BTG Pactual, CaraÍ Empreendimentos LTDA, HINOVE, Rodobens, cultural support from Instituto FAR, funding from the Government of the State of Mato Grosso do Sul, through the Fundação de Cultura de Mato Grosso do Sul, in addition to the partnership with J.Macêdo and Fecomércio MS-SESC.
