Duo Santoro performs for the first time in Corumbá on May 25, Wednesday, on national tour, with free admission

With more than three decades of career, the Rio de Janeiro duo formed by twin cellists takes the stage at the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano with the project “O compositor é vivo!” (“The Composer Is Alive!”), dedicated to contemporary Brazilian composers

For the first time in Corumbá, the Rio de Janeiro twins best known in Brazilian cello will give the concert of the tour “O compositor é vivo!” at the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano on May 25, Wednesday, at 6pm. The tour, which began in Mariana (MG), will also travel through other Brazilian cities until June, promoting and spreading the classical music of living Brazilian composers, highlighting its importance and musical quality. In Corumbá, the duo will give the world premieres of works by Eduardo Martinelli and Cyro Delvizio. The show will then go on to Vitória (ES), Belém (PA) and São Luís (MA).

With sponsorship from the Instituto Cultural Vale (Vale Cultural Institute), through the Federal Law for Cultural Incentive, and produced by the Special Secretariat of Culture, the Ministry of Tourism and the Federal Government, the project will present ten brand-new songs by composers born or residing in Belém (PA), Corumbá (MS), Mariana (MG), São Luís (MA) and Vitória (ES), the cities that will host the concerts. All the songs composed exclusively for the project will have their scores made available for free access and download on the Musica Brasilis platform (www.musicabrasilis.org.br), the largest portal of Brazilian music scores, which is also sponsored by the Instituto Cultural Vale.

Most of the concerts will have free admission. They will be preceded by free masterclasses aimed at students, teachers and cello musicians, as well as educational concerts intended exclusively for public schools and social projects. Teachers will receive a digital booklet with suggested music teaching activities.

At the end of the project, Duo Santoro will go into the studio to record their third album with the ten brand-new compositions presented in the concerts. The release is scheduled for November on the main digital platforms.

All in-person events will be accessible for people with disabilities. The following form must be filled out so that the services can be provided in the best way: https://forms.gle/3nos5hGDERvrPdbZA.

Duo Santoro

Since its debut in 1990, Duo Santoro has been the only cello duo in permanent activity in Brazil. Their recitals include an eclectic range of styles, from classical to popular, with some of the leading Brazilian composers dedicating important works to the Duo, such as Edino Krieger, Ronaldo Miranda, João Guilherme Ripper, Ernani Aguiar, Dimitri Cervo, Ricardo Tacuchian, Villani-Côrtes, Tim Rescala, André Mehmari, among others. They hold Master’s degrees from UFRJ and UNIRIO and belong to the ranks of the Orquestra Sinfônica Brasileira (Brazilian Symphony Orchestra) and the UFRJ Symphony Orchestra. In the celebrations of their 20th anniversary, in 2010, they performed throughout Brazil and in the Dominican Republic, crowning the year with a recital at Carnegie Hall in New York.

In 2013, they released their first CD, “Bem Brasileiro” (“Truly Brazilian”), dedicated to 20th-century and contemporary Brazilian composers, and, in 2017, they released their second CD, “Paisagens Cariocas” (“Rio Landscapes”), dedicated to Brazilian classical and popular music, being chosen as one of the “10 must-hear classical music albums” by Revista Bravo of São Paulo. In 2018, they performed at the Teatro Real de Córdoba (Argentina) and recorded the CD “Retratos de Brasil en Córdoba,” as soloists of the Orquesta Académica del Teatro del Libertador, performing the concerto “Duplum” by João Guilherme Ripper, dedicated to Duo Santoro.
