The show O corpo que eu habito (The Body I Inhabit) will have its national premiere at the Oficina de Dança de Corumbá (Corumbá Dance Workshop), with performances on July 20 and 21, Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 7pm. There will also be a free workshop “O Corpo que Habitamos” (The Body We Inhabit)
Besides Corumbá, five other Brazilian cities will host the project: Ipatinga, Belém, São Luís, Vitória and Rio de Janeiro.
O Corpo que eu habito is a hybrid show in which dance, theater, music and performance blend together with the goal of promoting a reflection on the body of each individual in the here and now.
In the show, each artist/performer brings to the stage their experiences, stories and particularities, exploring the possibilities and potential of their bodies. On stage, seven dancers compose solos that end up intersecting to form duos, trios and moments of collective staging that give rhythm to the dynamic of coexistence between different forms of knowledge and signs, sparking a “choreographic debate” about time, space, feeling, experiences, heritage, memory, history, and sense of belonging.
The concept is by Sueli Guerra, who shares the research, conception and artistic direction with Alessandro Brandão.
Workshop
O Corpo que habitamos (The Body We Inhabit) is a workshop that aims to provide participants with tools for understanding the use of their own body and creation based on self-knowledge. The workshops are aimed at people who may or may not have prior body experience, and will allow participants to develop their ability to interpret without the rigidity of a single dance aesthetic, while working with broad dance concepts such as spatiality, gravity and suspension, rhythm, coordination, movement intentions, memory and improvisation.
The project is sponsored by Instituto Cultural Vale (Vale Cultural Institute) via the Federal Law for the Promotion of Culture/Rouanet Law, with support from the Oficina de Dança de Corumbá and the Instituto Moinho Cultural.
