With donations, dancers travel 9,000 km to represent MS in France

The performances begin this Friday (16) and will continue throughout the weekend, at the Festival Dança em Trânsito (Dance in Transit Festival), in Paris, France. Thanks to donations, three dancers from Mato Grosso do Sul will be there: Agustin Salcedo Martin, Núbia Santos and dancer and also choreographer Wellington Júlio, from the Companhia de Dança do Pantanal (Pantanal Dance Company).

One of the presentations will be at the Brazilian Embassy in France. From MS, the company, which is linked to the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano (South American Moinho Cultural Institute), prepared the show “Carne Quebrada”. Speaking about the matter, the director of Moinho Cultural, Márcia Rolon, commented that being in Paris “is a milestone”.

18 years ago, according to Rolon, the Companhia de Dança do Pantanal left the border between Brazil and Bolivia to “reach greater heights”. In the case of this show, the inspiration was the most famous work by Júlio Ribeiro, ‘A Carne’ (‘The Flesh’), published in 1888, considered one of the boldest and most curious novels of Brazilian naturalism.

The direction is by Rolando Candia and the artistic direction is by Márcia Rolon. “Carne Quebrada” was recently presented in Rio de Janeiro, also during one of the stages of the 20th Dança em Trânsito.

The institute helps children and adolescents in situations of social vulnerability in Corumbá, Ladário, Puerto Suarez and Puerto Quijarro, with dance, music, technology and computing classes. In all, about 23,000 people have already been served.
