On October 18th and 19th, artists from Brasília will be at the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano, and at 7 p.m. on the 19th the show “Palhaço(s)” (Clown(s)), an interactive performance, will be open to the public. The text is by author Timochenco Wehbi and builds a dramaturgy around characters in moments of loneliness and obscure memories that intertwine the real and the imaginary. The play returns to the stage to mark ten years since its premiere, with stops in Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul.

The plot tells the stories of Careta and Benvindo during an encounter in the dressing room of a circus in decline. Benvindo, a shoe salesman who dreamed of becoming a circus performer, is provoked by Careta when, suddenly, role swaps occur and the viewer is led to wonder whether the two characters might not be different outcomes of the same person’s story, where one would be the projection of the other based on the decision to pursue or not pursue the dreamed-of career.

Direction and clowning are by Alessandra Vieira, with performances by Cristiano Gomes and Reverson dos Anjos. The staging highlights a painted poetic reality, at times leaning toward naturalism, at times toward melodrama and expressionism. Always in deep technical, aesthetic, and poetic dialogue with the circus, especially with classic clowning.

In the show, the audience is invited to participate interactively, entering the space of action and engaging with the scenes in a distinctive, intimate way. Throughout the performance, an atmosphere of complicity is created between the audience and the characters. Aimed at young adult and adult audiences, the piece discusses and celebrates the profession of the clown and the circus, and questions the professional choices we make and prevailing social standards.
