Cia de Dança do Pantanal (Pantanal Dance Company) performs excerpt from ‘Carne Quebrada’ in Rio de Janeiro

Choreography is part of the program of the 19th edition of Dança em Trânsito

Dancers from the Companhia de Dança do Pantanal (Pantanal Dance Company), linked to the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano (South American Moinho Cultural Institute), took part, on Sunday (14th), in the 19th edition of Dança em Trânsito – International Contemporary Dance Festival, in Rio de Janeiro. Núbia Santos and Agustin Salcedo performed an excerpt of the choreography ‘Carne Quebrada’, by Wellington Júlio.

Dança em Trânsito is presented by the Ministry of Tourism and sponsored by Instituto Cultural Vale, Banco do Brasil, Engie and Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus. The festival is organized by Espaço Tápias.

‘Carne Quebrada’ is inspired by Júlio Ribeiro’s most famous work, ‘A Carne’, published in 1888. The work is considered one of the boldest and most curious novels of Brazilian naturalism.

“For me, taking part in ‘Dança em Trânsito’ was something unique, especially since it was the first contact with the audience after difficult times. The experience was unique,” recalled Núbia Santos.

For dancer Agustin Salcedo, the experience was unforgettable. “My experience at the ‘Dança em Trânsito’ festival was incredible and unforgettable, having the opportunity to dance in such a big city and to represent our company. Bringing a bit of our work, our language, and watching other artists and their work is without a doubt a very rewarding exchange. We thank Instituto Cultural Vale for encouraging and believing in art,” said Agustin.

The Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano

Located in Corumbá-MS for 16 years, the Institute is a civil society organization (OSC) that offers dance, music, technology and computer classes to children and adolescents in situations of social vulnerability in Corumbá, Ladário, Puerto Suárez and Puerto Quijarro; as well as a fellowship and bonding-strengthening service between institution, family, school and participant, and training of creative performers for young people and adults, through the Companhia de Dança do Pantanal (Pantanal Dance Company), Orquestra de Câmara do Pantanal (Pantanal Chamber Orchestra) and Núcleo de Tecnologia (Technology Center). Its mission is to reduce social vulnerability in the Brazil-Bolivia border region through access to cultural and technological assets.

In 2020, Moinho was recognized by Instituto Doar with the Selo A (Seal A), qualifying as a certified organization. This recognition legitimizes and highlights the professionalism and transparency of the OSC, aiming to further encourage a culture of giving.
