The transfer, for another 20 years, of the building where Moinho Cultural operates, a property owned by J Macedo, was signed today (20) during a ceremony. The Executive Director of Moinho, Márcia Rolon, and the Executive Director of J.Macedo, Luiz Eduardo Barbosa de Moraes, took part in the ceremony.

Luiz Eduardo congratulated the Institute on the work carried out. “Our wish is that over the next 20 years you continue with this energy, this drive, this sparkle in your eyes, so that the project keeps growing and is recognized not only within Brazil but also beyond our country. Congratulations to all of you, we are very happy with this project which in 2025 marks 21 years of history within this building,” he said.

Márcia Rolon thanked them for the trust placed in the work of Moinho Cultural. “We hold great affection for this place. Here we have seen thousands of children and young people fulfill their dreams, follow paths of success and transformation. Every room in this building tells a story and, thanks to the support of J. Macedo, we can continue working towards our mission as an institution,” she stated.

About the building

The Moinho Cultural building is the most colorful in the Cidade Branca (White City) and also one of the oldest in the municipality, built between 1946 and 1950, a period when Corumbá was the largest economic center of what was then Mato Grosso.

Located on the banks of the Paraguay River, the site was initially a wheat flour mill, which operated for 21 years. Between 1990 and 1993 the building was ceded to serve as the headquarters of the Environmental Military Police, where an environmental education center was set up at the time.

After this period, the 15-thousand-square-meter building was once again closed. Only in 2004, with the implementation of the Programa Monumenta (a program for the sustainable recovery of Brazilian urban historical heritage) and after raising funds for the building’s revitalization, was it possible to make the dream of turning the space into the headquarters of Moinho Cultural come true.

On December 18, 2004, Moinho Cultural held its inaugural class, and in February 2005 activities began, which was only possible thanks to the approval, at the time, of the building’s owner, J. Macedo.

The building currently lies within the buffer zone of the Historic, Architectural and Landscape Heritage Listing of Corumbá.
