Teenagers from the intermediate dance class took part in the festival
The intermediate dance class of the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano (South American Cultural Mill Institute) took part in the Joinville Dance Festival (SC) in late July. The event is considered the largest dance festival in the world.
For many Moinho Cultural participants, it was their first trip without their parents or to a larger city.
“It was a very different experience, because it was a trip without my parents, only with my friends. It was a lot of fun. Joinville is a big city and it’s amazing. I wanted to thank Wellington (from the Cia de Dança do Pantanal, Pantanal Dance Company) for giving us the opportunity. It seems people liked the dance we performed,” says Maria Gabriely da Silva Ortiz.
For Fabíola Andreia Campos da Conceição, the experience was “amazing.” “I loved the experience of being in Joinville. It was a lot of fun. Before going, I was a little nervous about traveling without my parents. I had never been away from my father and mother for so long. It served kind of as a lesson. I really hope to go next year to be able to compete,” the teenager assures.
“It was many hours of travel, but every second was worth it. We met a lot of new people. We met the greatest ballerina in Brazil, we saw the shows and the energy each one gives off. We got to know new places and saw the audience’s reaction. Everything was amazing and I hope it happens again,” sums up Anthonia Faria Regenold.
Moinho Cultural’s executive director, Márcia Rolon, highlights that the intermediate class’s participation is an added incentive not only for the class, but for all the institution’s participants, which for 18 years has been investing in art as an engine of social transformation.
“For the class, it was a moment of discoveries, of feeling everything very intensely. For Moinho Cultural as a whole, this participation came full of emotion and gratitude. Certainly, all our participants who were there came back different, with more thirst for dance, for art, for culture. And they inspire everyone who stayed here,” recalls Márcia Rolon.
Recognition of the artists
Dancers from the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano, Maria Eduarda, Luiz Coelho and Wellington Júlio, who is also the institution’s choreographer, also attended the festival. They received scholarships to take part in the event.
Together with choreographer Chico Neller, they met with the director of the Joinville Dance Festival to thank her for her support and also to present the work developed by Moinho Cultural and the Cia. de Dança do Pantanal.
