The art of dance from MS will be featured for the 1st time in one of the country’s largest media outlets, with production carried out in Campo Grande
Four of the greatest names in dance from Mato Grosso do Sul will be sharing their stories in one of the country’s largest media outlets. CLAUDIA magazine, published by Editora Abril and celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2021, will begin filming images and interviews on Monday (Oct. 19, 2020) at 11 a.m. in Campo Grande with choreographers, dancers, and directors Chico Neller, Neide Garrido, Beatriz de Almeida, and Corumbá native Márcia Rolon.
According to journalist and former dancer Flávia Viana, who is from Mato Grosso do Sul and has spent the last 6 years writing about trends, shows, and especially dance, the interview is a long-held wish. “I left the state more than 20 years ago to look for new opportunities. I was lucky enough to meet and work with great professionals. In São Paulo, I was able to do great projects, but I love Campo Grande, I love my state, I want to tell our story and not only bring things here, but also take our art to the rest of the country,” said Flávia, who will sign the interviews.

This allowed her to ‘streamline’ the proposal, take it to São Paulo, and discuss it with the magazine’s editor. “I wanted to tell people about our dance, these people, our art. I know it’s only 4 people, I know there are many more, but in discussion with the magazine’s editor we settled on these. The idea is to take a bit of the dance produced here to the country and to the world,” she explained.
Viana said that with this step she intends to split her time between Campo Grande and São Paulo. “With the pandemic situation I spent more time in Campo Grande… I want to produce things here. I already have some meetings scheduled for us to think about other art projects here,” she revealed.
The reporter wanted to know if Viana could give advance details about the other projects. She smiled and explained that they are still being widely discussed. But she stressed that Monday’s production would be done only with professionals from MS. “I wanted to work with people from here, I was going to bring a photographer from São Paulo, but I was introduced to the work of Ricardo Valencio – incredible, very different, how the magazine works. The same happened with the makeup artist, Raquel Galhardo,” she noted.
The artists Neller, Garrido, Almeida, and Rolon are major highlights in dance and had their stories told in the book “Vozes da Dança” (Voices of Dance): a record of the cultural memory of Mato Grosso do Sul. This production, made by the MS state government, features 18 dance personalities from the state.
