One of the now well-known gatherings of the Festival América do Sul (South America Festival), the Quebra-Torto com Letras (a hearty regional breakfast paired with literature) returns to the program in 2026, bringing together literature, regional culture and typical cuisine in Corumbá.
The event takes place on May 15 and 16, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano (South American Cultural Mill), with free admission.
Inspired by the traditional “quebra-torto” served on Mato Grosso do Sul farms before work in the fields, the gathering blends a regional breakfast with conversation circles, poetry and literary debates.
The aim is to bring the public closer to writers and researchers who discuss topics such as memory, ancestry, cultural identity, orality and social issues through literature.
Professor and researcher Jordana Xavier, who holds a doctorate in Letters from UFPR (Universidade Federal do Paraná) and teaches at UEMS (Universidade Estadual de Mato Grosso do Sul), will moderate.
On Friday (15), writers Raí Soares, Raquel Medina and Jusley Monteiro take part. The discussion will focus on affective memory, orality and family traditions.
On Saturday (16), the program welcomes writer Cidinha da Silva, poet Rossine Benício and writer and musician André Ramalho, in conversations about Afro-Brazilian literature, urban daily life, poetry and social criticism.
The Festival América do Sul 2026 takes place from May 14 to 17 in Corumbá, with free programming spread across different historic sites in the city. Highlights include shows by Marcelo D2, Dilsinho and Dennis DJ, as well as cultural attractions from Latin America.
