The Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano (IMC) (South American Moinho Cultural Institute), through the Cia de Dança do Pantanal and the Orquestra de Câmara do Pantanal (OCAMP), takes over Corumbá on two distinct occasions in the coming days. Tomorrow (29), at 10 a.m., it presents a performance on Rua Frei Mariano, in Corumbá, celebrating International Dance Day. On Thursday (30), at 6:30 p.m., the Cia de Dança do Pantanal joins the Cia Infantojuvenil Moinho Cultural to represent the Institution at the “Corumbá em Dança” event, organized by the City Hall, held at Praça Nova Corumbá.
The performance, presented in flash mob format, is the result of an adaptation of the show “Guadakan,” which was originally conceived to be danced on stage and, on this occasion, takes over the streets of Corumbá. In it, members of the Cia de Dança do Pantanal embody animals of the Pantanal, guided live by OCAMP musicians.
“It’s a way of bringing the living Pantanal to downtown Corumbá. The animals we dance aren’t costumes, they are our identity, built daily through contact with the biome. When we dance with live music, played by our colleagues from Moinho Cultural who make up OCAMP, we further stimulate collective creativity, bringing the Pantanal to the stage,” highlighted Aline Silva Espirito Santo, coordinator of the Dance Nucleus of the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano and member of the Cia de Dança do Pantanal.
On the 30th, the “Corumbá em Dança” event, organized by the City Hall, brings together the Cia Infantojuvenil and the Cia de Dança do Pantanal at Praça Nova Corumbá in a varied program. The lineup includes repertoire classics such as “Mirlitons,” as well as the male variations of “Talismã” and “Tchaikovsky,” and other contemporary dance choreographies.
The Cia de Dança do Pantanal turned nine years old in 2026 and is experiencing a period of significant national and international touring. In March, the company performed at the Fórum Internacional Femina Vox (Femina Vox International Forum), a UNESCO-linked initiative held in Campo Grande. Linked to the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano, a reference in artistic training on the Brazil-Bolivia border, the company is a direct result of the institution’s training process, which serves 400 participating children and adolescents in Corumbá, Ladário (MS) and the Bolivian cities of Puerto Suárez and Puerto Quijarro.
