Bodies that crawl, rise, and are reborn in a spiral. Light and shadow contending for the stage. It is in this territory between the visible and the invisible that the Cia de Dança do Pantanal (Pantanal Dance Company) presents the show “Estado Fantasma II”, this Friday, February 27, at 7 p.m., at Sesc Teatro Prosa, in Campo Grande (MS). Admission is free.
Built from a reading of the book “A Queda do Céu” (The Falling Sky) by Davi Kopenawa and Bruce Albert, it draws on the ancestral force of the Xapiri spirits and their spiraling dances that warn us about the passages already foretold, whose effects we already feel. The sky will fall if we do not wake from this ghost state.
The show builds a sensory experience that runs through body, nature, and spirituality. On stage, the performers evoke transformation, resistance, and rebirth, inviting the audience to reflect on humanity’s impact on nature and the urgency of reconnecting with what sustains us.
With overall direction by Márcia Rolon and stage dramaturgy, language research, and choreographic conception by Fernando Martins, the work relies on an intense, physical dance, marked by shifts, falls, and reconstructions. The original soundtrack, also by Fernando Martins, converses with the lighting design by Rodrigo Silbat, creating an atmosphere that alternates tension and delicacy.
“It is a creation that invites us to wake from this state of numbness in which we often live. The ‘ghost state’ speaks of a body that has lost the ability to feel, but that can be reborn. Dance here is a call to rediscover our power and our responsibility toward life and toward nature,” highlights Márcia Rolon, general director of the show and artistic director of the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano (South American Moinho Cultural Institute).
The cast brings together Agustin Salcedo, Aline Espírito Santo, Izabelle Paiva, Kelven Alex, Marcos Souza, Nayara Conceição, Núbia Santos, Luz Coelho, and Pedro de Barros, who take on the role of performer-creators in building the work.
