A participant of the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano (South American Cultural Mill Institute), clarinetist Ewerton Guimarães, 19, born in Corumbá (MS), started an online fundraiser to buy the instruments he needs to continue his training and professional career in Rio de Janeiro. The campaign has a goal of R$ 40 thousand and seeks to make possible the purchase of two clarinets (in B-flat and in A), instruments required for orchestra repertoires and routines.
“When I started studying with more discipline, playing at higher levels, and especially when I experienced the artistic residency with the OSB in Rio de Janeiro and went on stage as a soloist, I became certain that it wasn’t just a distant dream. It was my future being built,” says Ewerton.
The musician began studying at Moinho Cultural at age 7 and, throughout his journey, worked as a mentor and participant in artistic projects linked to the institution. In 2025, he experienced a decisive stage by taking part in a six-month artistic immersion with the Orquestra Sinfônica Brasileira (Brazilian Symphony Orchestra, OSB), through the Programa Vale Música, of the Instituto Cultural Vale, in partnership with the Instituto Moinho Cultural. During that period, he took classes with major references and even performed as a soloist, playing Weber’s Concertino for clarinet.
Ewerton was also accepted after UFRJ’s Specific Skills Test and awaits his Enem score to begin his bachelor’s degree. The challenge now is securing the means to continue on this path: he still doesn’t own his own instruments and has been advancing thanks to loans, first from Moinho Cultural and later from OSB musicians themselves.
Besides seeking to fund the purchase of the clarinets, the campaign reinforces a direct message: help isn’t “extra,” it’s what guarantees continuity. In a border region where opportunities aren’t obvious, an instrument can be the difference between halting a life project or moving on to the next stage.
