The Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano (South American Moinho Cultural Institute), through the Cia de Dança do Pantanal (Pantanal Dance Company), presents two opportunities for the public to experience the power of dance as an expression of culture and nature. At the historic Casa da Ópera – Teatro Municipal de Ouro Preto, on October 4 at 7 p.m., the Company presents “Estado Fantasma II,” a choreographic work inspired by the book A Queda do Céu (The Falling Sky), by Davi Kopenawa, and by the visions of the Xapiri, forest spirits who dance before the Shaman. These beings bring images of smoke, roots and wind, driving a choreographic state that transforms the body, which crawls, unravels and is reborn, like someone reinventing their own skin.
“This state belongs not only to the Xapiri but to us as well, when dance moves through the body and calls us to feel the invisible. In a spiral, each gesture returns, repeats and transforms, revealing the power of nature and the urgency of the encounter between body, presence and creation,” says choreographer Fernando.
In Belo Horizonte, at the Grande Teatro do Sesc Palladium, the Company was invited to join the Série Domingos Clássicos (Classical Sundays Series) alongside the renowned Orquestra Ouro Preto (Ouro Preto Orchestra) with the performance “Fernão Capelo Gaivota” (Jonathan Livingston Seagull), based on the literary classic by Richard Bach. Created during the pandemic as part of the Programa Vale Música (Vale Music Program), the show has already been presented in Rio de Janeiro and had a special filming session at Amolar, in addition to being available on the Orquestra Ouro Preto YouTube channel. Now it gets a new encore in Belo Horizonte.
The performance will take place on October 5 at 11 a.m., in a show accessible to the whole family, with the concert translated into sign language. The production unites literature, music and dance, with a score by Tim Rescala, in a celebration of freedom and the beauty of believing in oneself. Founded in 2017 in Corumbá (MS), the Cia de Dança do Pantanal has gained national and international recognition for its blend of neoclassical and contemporary dance and its commitment to preserving the Pantanal, offering audiences an artistic experience that is also a statement against the environmental crisis threatening the region. The project is an initiative of the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano, which has worked for 21 years promoting culture, education and technology in the border regions of Mato Grosso do Sul.
