The Corumbá City Hall transferred, this Thursday, September 11, the amount of R$187.9 thousand to the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano (South American Moinho Cultural Institute). The transfer was made by Mayor Dr. Gabriel Alves de Oliveira and the deputy mayor and secretary of Social Assistance and Citizenship, Bia Cavassa, during a ceremony at the institution’s headquarters. Of the total, R$112.9 thousand came from five parliamentary amendments presented by four city councilors, and R$75 thousand were allocated through the first installment of the Fundo Municipal de Investimentos Sociais (FMIS, Municipal Social Investment Fund).
The funds will be used to purchase equipment and permanent materials for artistic, cultural and educational activities. Former city councilor Alex Della earmarked R$17.9 thousand for the purchase of items aimed at audiovisual production. Alexandre Vasconcellos allocated R$15 thousand to set up the ballet rooms. Chicão Vianna submitted two amendments: one of R$40 thousand for the auditorium and another of R$20 thousand for audiovisual reinforcement. Élio Júnior, in turn, allocated R$20 thousand for equipment to support meetings, events and performances.
Dr. Gabriel pointed out that the transfer was made possible thanks to the advance of the twelfth installment made by the City Council, and guaranteed the continuity of the FMIS. “Every real invested in the Moinho is immeasurable, because it represents the transformation of lives and opportunities for the children and young people of Corumbá,” said the head of the Executive branch. The initiative is part of the activities marking Corumbá’s 247th founding anniversary.
Deputy Mayor Bia Cavassa highlighted the partnership between the Executive and Legislative branches. “This union strengthens our social institutions and values the nationally and internationally renowned work carried out by the Moinho,” she said.
The city councilors also emphasized the importance of the support. “I’m very happy to be here today handing over these amendments, especially being able to allocate R$20 thousand to the Moinho, a place that does so much for our population. I leave here with a sense of duty fulfilled,” said Élio Júnior.
City councilor Alexandre Vasconcellos said the partnership is strategic. “The Moinho’s work isn’t limited to local culture, but generates an impact on society as a whole. It’s institutions like this one that make a difference where the hand of public authority doesn’t reach,” he declared.
For Chicão Vianna, the investment expands the institute’s reach. “I feel honored to hand over R$60 thousand to an institution of great standing and national renown. It’s pure gratitude to be able to take part in this moment, and may more amendments come. I want to praise Deputy Mayor Bia Cavassa and Mayor Gabriel for their sensitivity. I fought for parliamentary amendments for seven years and we never managed to achieve the success we’re having in this administration,” he said.
Former city councilor Alex Della, author of the R$17.9 thousand amendment, also highlighted the initiative. “I consider the administration’s action, with the support of the Council, to be positive. These amendments reaching the ground strengthen institutions like the Moinho, which does essential work in the social and educational field,” he said.
The institute’s artistic director, Márcia Rolon, thanked them for the resources and detailed the investments. According to her, the funds will make it possible to expand the technological structure for recordings, better equip the dance rooms, restructure the auditorium and offer more comfort to the audience. “These contributions ensure the continuity of cultural, training and educational projects that already impact thousands of people in Corumbá and across the state,” she highlighted.
