In December, the Moinho in Concert — the annual show that marks the close of the year’s activities at the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano — will take on mythical, visual and sensory contours with a theme uniting art, spirituality and collective memory. The 2025 edition invites the audience on a journey through the Peabirus, ancestral paths traced by native peoples in search of the “Land Without Evil,” and draws an analogy between that spiritual crossing and hopscotch games.
With more than 500 people involved — a live orchestra, dancers, and children and youth served by the Instituto — the show combines music, dance, visual art, and real records of dreams, drawings and stories collected throughout the year. The choreographies are inspired by different forms of hopscotch, such as the spiral and the cross pattern, symbolizing paths of self-discovery, belonging and overcoming.
“We’re talking about ancestry, territory and dreams. The Peabiru is that connection between worlds, between the visible and the invisible. And hopscotch, when stood upright, becomes an Andean totem, a symbol of transcendence. That’s what we want to evoke on stage: the game of life, the steps in search of the sky, the forest, the Land Without Evil,” explains Márcia Rolon, director of the Instituto.
The show will also be woven through with real records of dreams and drawings created by Moinho participants over the course of the year, and engages with the work of visual artist Leoni Antequera, a Bolivian based in São Paulo who creates pieces from organic materials and ancestral symbolism.
“My Peabirú, this physical and spiritual journey, leads me to create channels of provocation that highlight the importance of facing modernity with identity, whether individually or collectively. To walk is to live. The path, the walker and the walk are valuable realities. My Peabirú takes shape in the balance between the ancestral knowledge of peoples and the wisdom of nature. The land, to me, holds memories and energies that guide and drive every step,” the artist described.
Márcia Rolon also emphasized that Moinho in Concert 2025 is also a prompt for audiences to reflect on their own crossings. “This year, we’re working with this theme to talk about self-discovery, about each person’s discovery of their own Peabiru, and to show that this desired future can be reached from what we cultivate now, with art, education and sensitivity,” she says.
The show will be broadcast on open TV and later made available on Moinho’s official YouTube channel, extending the reach of this celebration of art, childhood and the cultural identity of the border region.
