Moinho Cultural takes part in program of Julho Cultura Viva pelo Brasil campaign

To kick off its activities as the Pontão de Cultura (Culture Hub) of Mato Grosso do Sul, the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano (South American Moinho Cultural Institute), in Corumbá, will host events that are part of the program of the Campanha Julho Cultura Viva pelo Brasil, an initiative of the Ministry of Culture (Minc) celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Política Nacional de Cultura Viva (National Living Culture Policy, PNCV).

The schedule includes: the workshop “O corpo que habitamos” (“The Body We Inhabit”), the meeting “Diálogos Culturais” (“Cultural Dialogues”) and the “Nhô Moinho” party.

“Starting our journey as a Pontão de Cultura with such great events, bringing together partners who also believe in and encourage regional artistic productions, is a great joy. Now, more than ever, our goal is to establish these connections between different types of art and development. We want to be that bridge,” said Márcia Rolon, director and founder of the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano.

The Nova Política Pública da Cultura (New Public Culture Policy) and the MINC programs are essential for the development of the cultural sector in Brazil. They aim to guarantee access to culture for all citizens, promote cultural diversity and encourage artistic production throughout the country. The Cultura Viva (Living Culture) program, in particular, stands out for its focus on recognizing and supporting community cultural initiatives, expanding the network of Pontos de Cultura (Culture Points) and strengthening local culture.

“Decentralizing culture is crucial to ensure that everyone has access to rich and diverse cultural expressions, regardless of their geographic location. Bringing events like Diálogos Culturais to the countryside and small towns is a way to democratize access to culture, promote social inclusion and value local traditions,” notes Fernanda Teixeira, general coordinator of the Comitê de Cultura de Mato Grosso do Sul (Mato Grosso do Sul Culture Committee).

Workshop “O corpo que habitamos”

Date: July 17 to 19

Time: 10am to 1pm (with Brazilian Sign Language interpreter)

Held by CIA DA IDEIA – Companhia de dança (dance company), the workshop “O corpo que habitamos” aims to provide participants with tools for understanding the use of their own body and creation based on self-knowledge, aimed at people who may or may not have prior body experience, and will allow participants to develop their ability to interpret without the rigidity of a single dance aesthetic, while working with broad dance concepts such as spatiality, gravity and suspension, rhythm, coordination, movement intentions, memory and improvisation. The workshop is free, with 20 spots available.

Diálogos Culturais

Date: July 20

Time: from 9am

An event by the Comitê de Cultura de Mato Grosso do Sul, in partnership with Moinho Cultural, the Diálogos Culturais meeting represents a unique opportunity to discuss the Nova Política Pública da Cultura, Ministry of Culture (MinC) programs, Comitê de Cultura activities, Cultura Viva and much more. Admission is free.

The Comitês de Cultura (Culture Committees) play a fundamental role in the articulation and implementation of cultural policies at the local and regional level. They are responsible for identifying needs, proposing actions and mobilizing resources to promote culture broadly and inclusively.

Festa Nhô Moinho

Date: July 20

Time: 6pm

Presented by: Moinho Cultural

Idealized by the Pontão de Cultura, Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano, with support from the Comitê de Cultura de MS, this year’s Arraiá comes with the theme “Nhô Moinho na Bio” to talk, through art, about the importance of biodiversity, also influenced by awareness of wildfires.

In addition to the treats, with food stalls serving traditional dishes spread across the venue, the party will also feature the country duo Júlia e Renato to liven up the night.

Partners also joined the circle and bring their traditional dances. The Quadrilha Chama Caipira, winner of the 2024 Arraial do Banho de São João de Corumbá contest, and the Quadrilha Salesianos, are part of the night’s program.

Also part of the event is a performance by the Cia de Dança do Pantanal, with “Janela do Dia”, and by OCAMP (Orquestra de Câmara do Pantanal, Pantanal Chamber Orchestra), with Forró do Meio do Dia.

To contribute to Moinho’s activities, admission will be a donation starting at R$ 10,00, which can be made at the reception of Instituto Moinho, located at Rua Domingos Sahib, 300, Porto Geral, Corumbá.
