The “Campanha Corumbá Mais Sustentável” (“More Sustainable Corumbá Campaign”), which aims to raise awareness among Corumbá’s population about the importance of properly maintaining the city’s sewage network infrastructure, will be launched next Monday, October 2. The initiative is led by Ambiental MS Pantanal and Sanesul, with support from the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano, Instituto Homem Pantaneiro (IHP) and the Polícia Militar Ambiental (Environmental Military Police).
Paulo Antunes, president and CEO of MS Pantanal, emphasizes that MS Pantanal’s purpose is to achieve universal sanitary sewage coverage in Mato Grosso do Sul, and that education and information actions to engage local communities on the proper use of the sewage network are urgent.
“We recognize that the involvement of local partners in the awareness campaign will be an important moment for sharing information about responsible practices with the municipality’s sewage network, which will promote a healthy environment for this and future generations.”
Ângelo Rabelo, president of the IHP, stresses that a sense of belonging and conservation awareness need to be constantly cultivated to preserve the Pantanal, whether through actions in rural or urban areas. “Whoever is in Corumbá has the Paraguai River as the view in their backyard. It’s essential that we build conservation awareness. This campaign is very necessary and helps reinforce that we are all responsible for taking care of the Pantanal.”
Launch of the Campaign “Corumbá Mais Sustentável”
On Monday (2), participants from the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano will take part in a guided visit to learn about Corumbá’s sewage treatment process. The activity is scheduled to begin at 9am, at the Estação de Tratamento de Esgoto Olaria (Olaria Sewage Treatment Plant), located at Rua Ten. Melquíades, S/N, Centro – Corumbá.
Participants will receive information and interesting facts so they can become multipliers of awareness actions regarding care to avoid overloading the sewage collection network, in addition to learning firsthand how the process works. This concern exists to ensure the network functions properly and that treatment is guaranteed.
On the same day, the signing ceremony for the cooperation agreement “Conservação Ambiental para o Saneamento Básico” (“Environmental Conservation for Basic Sanitation”) will take place at 2pm, at the Moinho Cultural headquarters, at Rua Domingos Sahid, 300, Beira-Rio, Corumbá, MS.
On the occasion, 50 kits with bottles, caps, informational cards and pamphlets will be handed out so that young people can obtain various resources to become ongoing multipliers of awareness actions about the proper use of the sewage network.
For the director of the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano, Márcia Rolon, this partnership with Ambiental MS Pantanal and Sanesul is an important step. “Together we have the chance to train multipliers who will do excellent work, first in their main core, which is the family, and then in schools and even within our Roda Moinho project.”
