Ahead of the Michel Teló show at the opening of the Festival América do Sul Pantanal, on Thursday (26), one of the attractions in the extensive program of the largest Latin American integration event, in Corumbá, was the Orquestra de Câmara do Pantanal (Pantanal Chamber Orchestra), officially founded in 2018 and made up of former students and new music learners from the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano. This institution, which unites music, dance and citizenship, operates in the city’s Porto Geral (General Port) area.
The Orchestra plays a significant role in the cultural context of the Pantanal region. With an ample program, it includes symphonic and chamber repertoires, classical, popular and regional, suitable not only for concert halls, but also for auditoriums, campuses and educational institutions, theaters, amphitheaters and open-air performances, as well as for small receptions, birthdays, weddings and other events.
Recently, some musicians joined the Orquestra Vale Música (Vale Música Orchestra) and represented Brazil very well in Dubai. They also took part in tours in five Brazilian capitals. The FEMUP – Festival de Música de Concerto do Pantanal (Pantanal Concert Music Festival), is also part of the history of the orchestra, conducted by maestro Eduardo Martinelli. “The orchestra grew a lot stronger through this exchange,” attests Márcia Rolon, director of Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano.
Varied rhythms
“Our main goals are to promote symphonic and chamber music, innovate in educational and artistic proposals, encourage audience development and, above all, promote the interaction between the knowledge produced at the Institute, which this year completes 18 years of work in social transformation through art, and society,” adds Rolon.
In the performance on the Palco da Integração (Integration Stage) of the Festival América do Sul Pantanal, the repertoire was quite diverse – from chorinho, through northeastern, regional and Latin rhythms –, lasting 50 minutes. For maestro Martinelli, an open-air concert is an extra challenge for the orchestra’s 26 members due to the audience’s different behavior. Performing at Fasp 2022, according to the maestro, was a reward for the talented group.
