Work developed by Moinho Cultural recognized by the Legislative Branch

The institute recently received commendations, both from the Legislative Assembly of MS and from the Municipal Council of Corumbá

The work developed by the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano (South American Cultural Mill Institute) in the border region of Brazil with Bolivia has been recognized by the Legislative Branch. Both the Legislative Assembly of Mato Grosso do Sul and the Municipal Council of Corumbá, where the institution is headquartered, recently honored Moinho Cultural.

Last Tuesday (12), the Municipal Council of Corumbá held a Solemn Session. Among those honored were the musicians of OCAMP (Orquestra de Câmara do Pantanal), from Moinho Cultural.

At the request of councilman Chicão Vianna, the members of the Orquestra de Câmara do Pantanal were honored: Gleison da Silva Ferreira (violin), Camila Gabriela Cáceres (viola), Henrique Lourenço de Carvalho (double bass), José Maikson Alves (cello), Diego Alberto Anez (viola), Felipe Gonçalves Arruda (clarinet), Roque Junior Rosa (violin), Emanuel Teixeira e Silva (violin), Melissa Wiletty Lazo (violin), Maria Eduarda de Oliveira (violin), Jorge Priésley da Cunha (guitar), Philip Maurício Andara (flute), Rafael Henrique Morais (cello), Caio Fortunato de Haro (violin), Eduardo Martinelli (conductor), Márcia Raquel Rolon (executive director) and José Roberto dos Santos Junior (coordinator).

The OCAMP musicians, in February, performed at Expo Dubai, together with other musicians from the Programa Vale Música (Vale Music Program).

In December, the Legislative Assembly had also held a Motion of Congratulations for the members of the Cia de Dança do Pantanal who took part in the 19th edition of Dança em Trânsito – International Contemporary Dance Festival, in Rio de Janeiro. The festival was presented by the Ministry of Tourism and sponsored by Instituto Cultural Vale, Banco do Brasil, Engie and Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus.

Dancers Agustin Salcedo and Núbia Santos performed ‘Carne Quebrada’, inspired by the most famous work of Júlio Ribeiro, “A Carne,” published in 1888.

For the executive director of Moinho Cultural, Márcia Rolon, these initiatives are true acknowledgments of the work developed by the institute over almost 18 years. Besides serving more than 23,000 children and adolescents in this period, Moinho Cultural has also produced two offshoots: OCAMP and the Cia de Dança do Pantanal.

“Receiving this recognition only makes us certain that we are on the right path. It’s already almost 18 years of history and many lives transformed through art. It is hard work, but rewarding. Seeing children and adolescents writing new stories through dance and music makes it all worthwhile. And seeing OCAMP and the Cia de Dança do Pantanal spreading their wings, going further and further, well beyond our borders, fills us with great pride,” she says.

The Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano

Located in Corumbá-MS for 18 years, the Instituto is a civil society organization (OSC) that offers dance, music, technology and computing classes to children and adolescents in situations of social vulnerability in Corumbá, Ladário, Puerto Suarez and Puerto Quijarro; in addition to a community engagement and bonding service between institution, family, school and participant, and training of creative performers for young people and adults, through the Companhia de Dança do Pantanal, Orquestra de Câmara do Pantanal and Núcleo de Tecnologia. Its mission is to reduce social vulnerability in the Brazil-Bolivia border region, through access to cultural and technological assets.

In 2020, Moinho was recognized by Instituto Doar with the Selo A, qualifying as a certified organization. This recognition legitimizes and highlights the professionalism and transparency of the OSC, aiming to further encourage a culture of giving.
