Moinho Cultural is one of the institutions that can receive donations via income tax

The deadline to file returns with the Receita Federal (Brazilian IRS) began on Monday (7) and runs through April 29

The Receita Federal began receiving income tax returns last Monday (7). The deadline to settle accounts with the taxman runs through April 29, and until then, taxpayers can help the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano (South American Moinho Cultural Institute) with donations when filing their return.

Individuals can donate up to 6% of their tax owed over the course of the year. If the donation is made during the filing period, the maximum percentage that can be donated is 3%. In both cases, the amounts are used as a deduction – that is, instead of directing the amount to the government, the sum is transferred to Moinho Cultural.

Since its activities began in 2004, in Corumbá (MS), Moinho Cultural has already served more than 23,000 children. The institution offers dance, music, technology and computer classes to children and teenagers in situations of social vulnerability in Corumbá, Ladário, Puerto Suárez and Puerto Quijarro.

“Moinho Cultural has a very strong social mission. We work to change life stories, to transform lives through art. All donations are very welcome and necessary, not only to continue, but also to expand our activities”, says the executive director of the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano, Marcia Rolon.

Regardless of whether the taxpayer owes tax or is due a refund, the donation can be made. For those who owe tax, the amount donated to the institution is deducted from the sum they would have to pay. In the case of refunds, the amount is deducted from the total.
