Show “O Outro Quebra-Nozes” enters final stretch of preparations

Moinho In Concert takes place on December 9, 10 and 11, at the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano, in Corumbá

“Once upon a time, there was a girl who was born in the Pantanal. Clara was very restless, curious about everything around her: the river, the plain, nature, the little animals, the moon, the stars in the universe, life. Her surroundings were pure, her love for it was authentic, natural and spiritual. She grew up feeding on everything that came before her eyes.”

This is how the story of the show “O Outro Quebra-Nozes” – Moinho In Concert 2021 begins, produced by the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano (South American Moinho Cultural Institute), sponsored by the Ministério do Turismo (Ministry of Tourism) and the Government of Mato Grosso do Sul, through the Fundo de Investimentos Culturais (Cultural Investment Fund, FIC).

This year, Moinho In Concert once again takes place in person, in Corumbá (MS), on December 9, 10 and 11, at 7pm. Still due to the pandemic, the performance will be for invited guests only, with priority given to participants, family members, supporters and partners. The show will also be broadcast by TV Morena (a Globo affiliate) in December, during the year-end programming.

To tell the story of Clara, who received the nutcracker as a Christmas gift, more than 150 people are involved. Preparations have now entered their final stretch. In dance alone, there are 91 students from Moinho Cultural plus 9 dancers from Cia de Dança do Pantanal (Pantanal Dance Company). In the musical portion, 31 students and 23 musicians from the Orquestra de Câmara do Pantanal (Pantanal Chamber Orchestra, OCAMP) are involved. In addition, at least 50 more people from the event’s technical, operational and administrative staff.

“It is with great joy that we come back together in person for Moinho In Concert, which is already part of the cultural calendar of Mato Grosso do Sul. Our students are eager for the moment to take the stage. Up to now, there have been many rehearsals so that we can present our Pantanal version of ‘O Quebra-Nozes’. It will certainly be moving,” says the executive director of Moinho Cultural, Márcia Rolon.

Márcia Rolon explains that Moinho In Concert is the result of a full year of work, done with dedication by everyone. “It’s a unique moment for everyone: from the children to the dancers and musicians who are already used to the stage. This year, the show ‘O Outro Quebra-Nozes’ will tell this already well-known story, full of fantasy, romance and emotion, in a different way. In the new version, the story speaks about reality,” she adds.

The show has artistic direction by Márcia Rolon. The musical concept and arrangement are by maestro Eduardo Martinelli, while the concept and adaptation of the original story were handled by Rolando Candia and Márcia Rolon. The choreography was conceived and adapted by Rolando Candia, Mayda Riveiro, Rudy Candia, Wellington Júlio and Aline Espírito Santo.

The Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano
Located in Corumbá-MS for 16 years, the Instituto is a civil society organization (OSC) that offers dance, music, technology and computer classes for children and adolescents in situations of social vulnerability in Corumbá, Ladário, Puerto Suárez and Puerto Quijarro; as well as a community service that strengthens bonds between the institution, family, school and participant, and training of creative performers for young people and adults, through the Companhia de Dança do Pantanal, Orquestra de Câmara do Pantanal and the Núcleo de Tecnologia (Technology Center). Its mission is to reduce social vulnerability in the Brazil-Bolivia border region through access to cultural and technological resources.

In 2020, Moinho was recognized by the Instituto Doar with the Selo A (Seal A), qualifying as a certified organization. This recognition legitimizes and highlights the professionalism and transparency of the OSC, aiming to further encourage a culture of giving.
