Volunteers can sign up, through the platform, to help the Institute
“The idea came about because of what the Pantanal was going through last year with the wildfires. I decided I wanted to help the region somehow, and since I’m passionate about music, I started looking for projects working with culture in the region.” That’s how the story of civil engineer Pedro Sader, 26, with the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano (South American Moinho Cultural Institute) began.
Pedro lives in São Paulo, but for two weeks he is volunteering at Moinho Cultural, in Corumbá (MS). He is the first volunteer the Institute has received through the partnership with Exchange do Bem.
Exchange do Bem is a social enterprise whose goal is to foster volunteering, connecting volunteers with various projects around the world. They offer more than 70 options in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. In Mato Grosso do Sul, one of the projects able to host volunteers is the Instituto Moinho Cultural. The social enterprise provides highly immersive cultural environments so the volunteer can have a meaningful learning experience about the project and the local culture.
“The experience has been great. I’m learning much more than I’m helping. Seeing children and young people’s contact with instruments and music, and seeing how it can change their lives, is amazing,” says Pedro Sader about his experience at Moinho.
For Moinho, hosting young people like Pedro is an opportunity to expand its reach. “It’s an honor to be chosen by Pedro for this exchange. Moinho walks side by side with transformation. So the exchanges, the experiences that volunteering produces, are essential to our essence,” says José Roberto, coordinator of Moinho Cultural.
