Festival de Música do Pantanal (Pantanal Music Festival) will be online and free and its program includes concerts, courses, masterclasses and lectures.
Starting July 27, the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano (South American Moinho Cultural Institute), through the Orquestra de Câmara do Pantanal – OCAMP (Pantanal Chamber Orchestra), promotes the I Festival de Música de Concerto do Pantanal – FEMUP (1st Pantanal Concert Music Festival). The online event will involve, in addition to music, the most diverse forms of making art, such as dance, popular knowledge, audiovisual images, nature and great names in music from Brazil and abroad.

Host of the festival, OCAMP will present three concerts over the four days of the event. The first is on July 28 (Wednesday), at 7 pm (8 pm Brasília time), when the Orquestra de Câmara do Pantanal, with a soprano duo, opens the evening integrating concert music and dance. The music will accompany an exclusive ballet performance by the Companhia de Dança do Pantanal (Pantanal Dance Company). The same evening also features Portuguese mandolinist Norberto Cruz and the Orquestra Filarmônica de Santa Cruz de La Sierra, from Bolivia.
Norberto Cruz performs the concerto for mandolin and string orchestra by Italian composer Carlo Cecere. Cruz has performed as a soloist in Portugal, Italy, Estonia, Bulgaria, Spain, Brazil and Austria, and has also performed alongside internationally recognized artists such as Andrea Bocelli, Noa, Plácido Domingo and Júlio Pereira.
The Orquestra Filarmônica de Santa Cruz de La Sierra was created five years ago and has already performed world-class works and productions.
On the 29th (Thursday), OCAMP performs again, this time joined by viola caipira, with Maycon Vianna, for reinterpretations of works by Heitor Villa-Lobos, Almir Sater and popular folk songs. Next, the integration is with viola de cocho, with Thiago Quevedo, in the show “Araras da Cidade, Músicas do Mato” (“City Macaws, Songs of the Wild”), which will project images of macaws in the urban environment.
The same day features a concert by Grupo Illvminata, of medieval and Renaissance music. The group seeks to revive the practice of early music repertoire in the city of Curitiba, promoting engagement between professional and amateur musicians, as well as combining musical experience with research.
The festival’s last night, July 30 (Friday), brings OCAMP back to the stage for a concert bringing together traditional repertoire works, at 7 pm. Then, starting at 7:30 pm, the Quarteto de Cordas Aporá (Aporá String Quartet), from São Paulo, performs.
The Quartet is made up of Felipe Bueno and Gabriel Meca, on violins; Brenner Rozales, on viola, and Santo Scala, on cello. They will perform works by Alberto Nepomuceno, one of the most important Brazilian composers.
Musical director of the I FEMUP, conductor Eduardo Martinelli highlights the support of the orchestras for the festival. “A fundamental part of the richness of the I FEMUP is the institutional support of important orchestras such as the Orquestra Filarmônica de Santa Cruz de La Sierra, Orquestra Sinfônica Brasileira, Orquestra de Ouro Preto, Orquestra Sinfônica de Campo Grande and Fundação Amazônica de Música, which, in various ways, made us feel very welcomed by their collaborations, whether in online classes, performances or the sharing of experiences inherent to well-established musical institutions,” he says.
