The Company retains and attracts professionals from other states and even countries
Created in 2017, in the city of Corumbá, the Cia de Dança do Pantanal (Pantanal Dance Company) aims to provide access and professional opportunities to dancers coming from South American social projects, as well as to represent the Pantanal region and promote dance with a repertoire that includes neoclassical and contemporary pieces created by national and international choreographers.
Currently with 10 dancers, the group is made up of six members born in Corumbá and graduates of the training program of the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano, plus four who came from other locations, namely Viçosa – Minas Gerais, São José do Rio Preto – São Paulo, Recife – Pernambuco and Mar del Plata – Argentina. As ballet masters, the Company has Cuban professionals from Camagüey, Mayda Rivero and Rolando Candia.
While seeking to give sustainability to the Instituto Moinho Cultural Sul-Americano – IMC (the NGO that proposed and founded the Company), the group also aims to explore and focus its work on one of the most precious biomes of Humanity, the Pantanal, which stretches across Brazil, Bolivia and Paraguay, countries bordering the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, and which is considered the largest floodable area on the planet.
The Companhia de Dança do Pantanal is a space where local, national and international artists, trained to a high degree of technical, artistic and professional knowledge by international standards, prepare to perform and represent Corumbá/MS and Brazil at home and abroad for an increasingly demanding audience for quality, excellence and grandeur in Brazil and in the world”, explains Márcia Rolon, dancer and founder and director of Moinho Cultural and the Dance Company.
During this pandemic period, the Company continues its regular rehearsals and studies; for some months it kept only online meetings, and since March it has resumed in-person activities, taking all biosafety precautions and guidelines.
As a supporter, the Company has Instituto Cultural Vale as its major sponsor and backer, in addition to donations and support through Instituto Moinho Cultural. Dance is one of the highlights among the more than 150 projects sponsored, created or supported by Instituto Cultural Vale for 2021 execution, which together total more than R$154 million. Of these, more than R$8.5 million are allocated through the Federal Cultural Incentive Law to eight initiatives such as shows, festivals and training schools across Brazil.

Company presents Carne Quebrada this Friday, the 30th

“Carne Quebrada” aims to show that heteronormativity bet that we would have nothing to say with our bodies and corporealities. Showing that we live in a reality that needs to expose atrocities, showing through them that we are voices orchestrated for change. This action is danced by Black, white and mixed-race women and men who share in common the insurgency of these subalternized groups, showing individualism together with unity.
The show is inspired by Júlio Ribeiro’s most famous work, “A Carne” (“The Flesh”), published more than a hundred years ago, in 1888, and considered one of the boldest and most curious novels of Brazilian naturalism.
